PROPERTY INFORMATION

1.13 acres of land for sale in Elko, Nevada located in a scenic area high in the hills overlooking town. It’s about 8 miles SW of town yet far enough away that we saw a small herd of deer just down the road from this property! Elko County sits in the NE part of NV about 180 miles S of Twin Falls, Idaho and 290 miles NE of Reno, NV in Cowboy Country!

All of the photos were taken in April 2014 of Meadow Valley Ranchos Unit 11 Block 25 Lot 4 and its surrounding views, just 200 ft SE of this property. We took the Hamilton-Bullion Trail up to the top of the hill and from there we took jeep trails that snaked up thru the property. On the way out we took a jeep trail east and hit the east section line and drove north down the hill. We found a federal survey marker at the NE corner of section 7 (a section = 1 square mile) so that will help you know you’re on the right path – you will definitely need a truck and I suggest 4wd to get up that east section line!

The property sits up on top of the hill in the first Elko foothills offering a fantastic view of the valley with Elko to the NE. It really is beautiful at the top of the hill with scattered trees and grass and tall sagebrush that was really green in the spring time. I remember the first time I saw this part of Elko I was mesmerized by the reddish hue colors that run thru these hills and the pretty green trees sprinkled everywhere – really a different topography than other parts of Elko and I really liked it!

There is a gorgeous view NW to the NE of the valley below with the Humboldt River winding thru it, Interstate 80 and the railroad running along it. We snapped a few photos of the train thru the valley below – cool if you’re into watching trains! The city also has their treatment plant in the valley below in square ponds as seen in the photos. It was a cloudy that day so we couldn’t see all of the nearby mountain peaks but we could see parts of them and the valley.

The town of Elko is so close by you can see the local businesses and new growth with your naked eye to the NE!

From the NW to NE are the Adobe Mountains across the other side of the narrow valley. She's got such cool peaks and I remember marveling at her when I first starting exploring this area - she’s different than the others - not as tall but just as interesting.

The Adobe's run for about 80 miles and have an area of about 314 square miles. It’s highest peak, an unnamed summit of 8,134 feet, is on the list of Nevada’s 172 Prominent Peaks! I was thinking they should name it after Ceasar Salicchi, the Elko County Treasurer from 1971 to 2006 and my mentor!

Elko County contains the majority of Nevada’s mule deer and this range is home to one of the largest mule deer and antelope herds in the state. They migrate between their summer range in the Snake and Adobe ranges to winter range in the Pequop Mountains. The N Fork of the Humboldt River borders the Adobe range to the south and east.

One of the largest herds I’ve seen in my life in 2004 while exploring this area!

If you wanted to develop the property you would want to study which road actually comes closest that is an easement. You can see in the aerial photos that most of the roads are built in the lower northern part of the subdivision and over the years they get built further up into the hills. So it might be closer to come in from one of those roads if you wanted to actually improve a road. But for now I thought it would be a great spot to hang out and a great investment!

The Hamilton-Bullion Trail runs right thru the west side of Meadow Valley Ranches Unit 11 and about a half of a mile west of this property and it’s a quick drive to the top of the Elko Hills. This 11 mile loop was made with efforts from the Elko Convention and Visitors Authority and the BLM to establish a route for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land - a pretty cool trail that takes you over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River. So definitely this is a fun area up in the top of the hills.

Within an hour’s drive of the property are some famous fishing holes, Wildhorse Reservoir, Ruby Lake, and South Fork Reservoir! On one of my first visits to Elko County these two nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!

Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir 60 miles north of the town of Elko. In 2011 I ran into some men who had just hauled a 350 pound elk from the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and of course I have included photos of those as well! Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about ice fishing at Wildhorse.

Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits on the SE side of the Ruby Mountains. With over 12,000 acres this area is a special habitat to over 207 species of birds providing feeding, nesting and a resting stop in the Pacific Flyway. On one of my first visits to Elko County some nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!

South Fork Reservoir and State Rec area is about 20 minutes S of Elko. It covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills and known for its trophy-class trout and bass.

I have really seen this side of Elko growing since I first started exploring here in 2002. There is a newer bridge overpass over the Humboldt River in town that making easy access to Bullion Road. This road runs west out of town and runs south of the Humboldt River out to this subdivision. There are several new homes being built along this road at a subdivision called Hamilton Stage with prices starting at over $250,000. I included a few photos of the new homes being built in 2012 in the additional photos area.

I love these hills that overlook Elko and I seldom come across properties up here overlooking Elko. I thought it would be a great getaway spot for someone to hang out in their RV and enjoy the deer as well as a good investment in the meantime. Or if you are looking for a beautiful building spot for one heck of a beautiful home. Imagine the change in the colors in valley below and mountain sides with the seasons! Char the Explorer : )

Elko County Area Photos

A video of my journeys thru Meadow Valley Ranchos Unit 11, the Hamilton-Bullion Trail and the South Fork State Reservoir where I sat thru a cattle drive in Elko, Nevada!

The Hamilton-Bullion Trail is an 11 mile loop ]for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land and over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River.

South Fork covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills. Known for its trophy-class trout and bass, and bird watching.

Elko County is located in northeastern Nevada, 295 miles east of Reno and 237 miles west of Salt Lake City. With 17,135 square miles it is one of the largest counties in the USA and is the heart of NE Nevada. A book listing American towns with the highest quality of life declared Elko, Nevada, "The Best Small Town in America." It is a small city, and a booming trading and service center for a mining and ranching area roughly the size of New England. In 2005 Relocate-America.com has named Elko City as 1 of the "Top 100 Places To Live" in the United States.

The population of Elko County is over 52,000, the town of Elko is over 18,000 and the town of Spring Creek is 12,000. Lately, Elko has evolved into a showcase for Western American Folk Art. Long famous for the National Basque Festival, held each Independence Day, a new era in Elko's cultural history began in 1985, when the first Cowboy Poetry Gathering was held. Estimates are 8000 - 10000 people attended the festival this January!

The weather in Elko County is considered ideal by many. Summer finds hot, dry afternoons with temperatures in the 90s, cooling to the low 40s and 50s by morning. Winters are moderate with lows typically in the 20s or 30s. Daytime highs during the winter months are in the 40s or 50s. Snowfall averages 42 inches per year and generally melts quickly. Yearly rainfall ranges from 9 to 10.5 inches. Sunny skies are usually seen over 300 days a year!

The land is mountainous and interspersed with low, flat valleys. The Humboldt River flows through the county, with the Ruby Mountains stretching across it in a north-south direction. The elevation in the valleys is about 5000 and reaches up to 11,300 feet at Ruby Dome. The elevation of Pilot Peak on the east side of Elko County reaches up to 10,716 feet. Elko County provides unlimited recreational opportunities with fishing, big game hunting (mule deer, elk, antelope and bighorn sheep), snowmobiling, ice fishing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, boating and skiing.
