Our Journey: Wild Horse State Park in Elko County, Nevada

Our Journey date: 2020-05-22

Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir about 1 hour N of Elko, Nevada. Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird hunting but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about the area! Ice fishing junkies pursue their passions each year in the frozen outback of Northern Nevada using augers and worms to catch Rainbow Trout, German Brown Trout, Tiger Trout, Channel Catfish and Perch. Summertime offers hunting and fishing while wintertime offers ice fishing derbies, snowmobiling and cross country skiing.

It was constructed in 1937 and named after the wild horses that roamed abundantly. The park offers day use, camping, and a boat ramp and BLM has a day use and campground area near the north end of the reservoir.  Wildhorse Resort has a motel, RV hookup, restaurant, bar, and a convenience store.  Duck Valley Indian Reservation provides campsites and a boat launch.

Over the years I have traveled many times past Wild Horse State Park and there's always something exciting to see! These are just a few of the photos I have taken since 2003! Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )
