Our Journey: Catfish Paradise at Havasu National Wildlife Refuge

Our Journey date: 2024-08-29

In February 2023 I stopped by Catfish Paradise at the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge and met 2 gentlemen who let me do some fishing with them! They were from CA and had been planning a fishing trip for a few years to this hot spot! It sits off the Oatman Highway along the Colorado River on the very west side of Arizona about 2 miles N of I-40 and 30 minutes NW of Lake Havasu City.

It's a beautifully hidden spot away from the crowds offering birdwatching, fishing, and kayaking along the southeastern banks of the marshy refuge area. There's a short path leading to the lake which was very surprising.

The mountains are beautiful!

The snags in the lake are unique! I am pretty sure this snag is related to the Nessie, the loch ness monster!

It sits on the Pacific Flyway and its home to many species of birds! I caught a white pelican which breeds in Canada and has been more frequently stopping in Arizona! How cool is that!

And this grackle kept a close on eye me!

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit with my new friends who were good sports showing me their tricks and tips - the bell was a new one for me! And when I asked who the better fisherman was, the banter never stopped!

CHECK THIS TRICK OUT! YOU CAN RING MY BELL ANYTIME!

Thanks guys - I thoroughly enjoyed our brief moment on Earth together!
