PROPERTY INFORMATION

1.13 acres land for sale 16 miles NE of Elko, Nevada in the Ryndon area with lovely views of the Ruby Mountains and Elko Hills. Elko County sits in very NE Nevada by Idaho and Utah. This investment property is just 3 miles off Interstate 80 in a pretty countryside setting. All of the photos and video were taken in June 2019. Sioux Avenue is a decent bladed road two lots to the W. Ponderosa Drive is a bladed overgrown dirt road along the S. Navajo Avenue is a decent road that leads NW thru the subdivision off of Indian Hills Drive and connects to Sioux Ave. There is power about 1/2 mile E at the neighbors on Navajo Avenue and La Vista Drive. We highlighted this in the map section.

The property is mostly flat with a gentle roll and wow was she ever a pretty green from all the moisture they've had this year! Wow what a great view of all the mountains from here!

The Elko Hills loom large to the south. It’s a full view and she has some pretty unique hillsides close by - very nice! And looming large beyond them from the S to the SE are the Ruby Mountains! Called the Swiss Alps of Nevada, her snow capped peaks reach up to 11,317 feet at Ruby Dome.

The Adobe Mountains surround most of the valley floor and were a beautiful green from all the moisture! They really are some pretty mountains to watch and such unsung beauty compared to the Rubies. She also has lots of character in her and I remember thinking how unique some of her cool peaks are when I first started taking photos of her about ten years ago. And when I took some time to look at these photos I thought the same thing again – wow those are some cool looking mountains.

They run for about 80 miles and have an area of about 314 square miles. It’s highest summit is 8,134 feet. It's on the list of Nevada’s 172 Prominent Peaks! I found a posting on summitpost.org of someone that hiked to the peak. They shared how to get out to the trail and the way up to the peak. They also shared several fabulous photos overlooking across the valley and Humboldt River to the Ruby Mountains. It seems that this is becoming quite known to climbers as you will see in the photos! Cool! Elko County contains the majority of Nevada’s mule deer and this range is home to one of the largest mule deer and antelope herds in the state. They migrate between their summer range in the Snake and Adobe ranges to winter range in the Pequop Mountains. The N Fork of the Humboldt River borders the Adobe range to the south and east. Most of the Adobes are a checkerboard of public (Bureau of Land Management) and private ownership. This pattern is attributed to the Pacific Railway Act of 1862, where the federal government gave railroad companies free land in alternating sections as an incentive and a means to finance the overwhelming task of linking east with west by rail.

One of the largest antelop herds I’ve seen in 2004 while exploring this area!

Within an hour’s drive of the property are some famous fishing holes, Wildhorse Reservoir, Ruby Lake, and South Fork Reservoir!

Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir 60 miles north of the town of Elko. In 2011 I ran into some men who had just hauled a 350 pound elk from the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and of course I have included photos of those as well! Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about ice fishing at Wildhorse. Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits on the SE side of the Ruby Mountains. With over 12,000 acres this area is a special habitat to over 207 species of birds providing feeding, nesting and a resting stop in the Pacific Flyway. On one of my first visits to Elko County some nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state! South Fork Reservoir and State Rec area is about 20 minutes S of Elko. It covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills and known for its trophy-class trout and bass.

The section of land that this property is located in is close to several square miles of BLM land as seen in the BLM map. (BLM land is in orange). A section = 1 square mile = 640 acres. For more information on BLM land you can visit BLM.gov. I have really seen the areas NE along I-80 continue to grow. It seems it’s mostly the locals who buy properties out here to hang out in their RV in the country side or for investment. You’re still a quick drive to the garlic steak sandwich at the Star Hotel in bustling downtown Elko! I myself own a piece of land about 10 miles N off Coal Mine Canyon Road. I keep telling myself some day I am going to build myself a little place there and watch it snow on the Ruby Mountains! It's about a ten minute drive NE of Elko and there is a gas station/mini store at the Ryndon exit #314. I stopped there twice the week I viewed this property as their sandwiches are delicious and it's convenient gas! And OK I threw a couple bucks into the slot machine there too - ha!

I caught a gal out riding a horse just off the Ryndon exit a few years ago. Her and a friend were out practicing in their arena with her pony tail and bright pink top - looked fun to me and reminded me of what Elko is all about - Cowgirl Country! : )

What a pretty spot for someone seeking a place to call home and be a decent commute still to town. Come have fun in Cowboy Country hunting, fishing or just watching the antelope roam! Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )

Elko - Elko County Area Stock Photos

Elko County Area Photos

A video of my journeys thru Meadow Valley Ranchos Unit 11, the Hamilton-Bullion Trail and the South Fork State Reservoir where I sat thru a cattle drive in Elko, Nevada!

The Hamilton-Bullion Trail is an 11 mile loop for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land and over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River. South Fork covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills. Known for its trophy-class trout and bass, and bird watching.

Elko County is located in northeastern Nevada, 295 miles east of Reno and 237 miles west of Salt Lake City. With 17,135 square miles it is one of the largest counties in the USA and is the heart of NE Nevada. A book listing American towns with the highest quality of life declared Elko, Nevada, "The Best Small Town in America." It is a small city, and a booming trading and service center for a mining and ranching area roughly the size of New England. In 2005 Relocate-America.com has named Elko City as 1 of the "Top 100 Places To Live" in the United States.

The population of Elko County is over 52,000, the town of Elko is over 18,000 and the town of Spring Creek is 12,000. Lately, Elko has evolved into a showcase for Western American Folk Art. Long famous for the National Basque Festival, held each Independence Day, a new era in Elko's cultural history began in 1985, when the first Cowboy Poetry Gathering was held. Estimates are 8000 - 10000 people attended the festival this January!

The weather in Elko County is considered ideal by many. Summer finds hot, dry afternoons with temperatures in the 90s, cooling to the low 40s and 50s by morning. Winters are moderate with lows typically in the 20s or 30s. Daytime highs during the winter months are in the 40s or 50s. Snowfall averages 42 inches per year and generally melts quickly. Yearly rainfall ranges from 9 to 10.5 inches. Sunny skies are usually seen over 300 days a year!

The land is mountainous and interspersed with low, flat valleys. The Humboldt River flows through the county, with the Ruby Mountains stretching across it in a north-south direction. The elevation in the valleys is about 5000 and reaches up to 11,300 feet at Ruby Dome. The elevation of Pilot Peak on the east side of Elko County reaches up to 10,716 feet. Elko County provides unlimited recreational opportunities with fishing, big game hunting (mule deer, elk, antelope and bighorn sheep), snowmobiling, ice fishing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, boating and skiing.

A video of my first journey around the Ruby Mountains in June 2004! Includes Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, the Humboldt River and the Last Chance Ranch II by Spring Creek and Elko, Nevada!
