Property Photos

All of the photos were taken in June 2019 of Humboldt Acres Unit 3 Block B E2 of Lot 8 and the surrounding views. The last 5 panormaics were taken in August 2018. I originally viewed it when Elko was thick with smoke from the California fires. I couldn't see the Rubies, so I stopped by again!

PROPERTY INFORMATION

1.03 acres land for sale 30 minutes NE of Elko by Wells, Nevada. There's easy graveled road access from Interstate 80 and power runs along the property! Oh the views were awesome of the Ruby Mountains and surrounding valley! It's about 2 hours SW of Twin Falls, Idaho and 3 hours west of Salt Lake City, UT in Cowboy Country!

The photos and video were taken of the property and it's surrounding views in June 2019. The last 5 panormaics were taken in August 2018. I originally viewed it when Elko was thick with smoke from the California fires and I couldn't see the Rubies. So I stopped by again and wow is it a lovely view!

It is easy to locate the property about 3.2 miles NW of Interstate 80. Take Merganser Ave W off I-80 to Second Street then head N to Teal Ave. It's a corner lot with Teal Avenue along the S and Second Street along the E. Both roads are a gravel/dirt mix and an easy drive. Power runs along Teal along the S of the property and there's a pole at the SE corner of the property. You would need to contact the local power company for the cost to bring the power onto the property.

Looking down the hill to the intersection of Teal Avenue and Second Street. The power runs along the same side of the road as the property.

I took the first photos up at the top of the hill at the NE corner of the property and then at the SE corner. This gives a better idea of the slop of the property onto the hill. The property is part of a big rolling hill with its NE corner sitting up at the highest point as it rolls down to the hill to the S and E. There is a stake at the NE corner at the top of the hill hidden in the sagebrush.

Looking W/NW across the property from the top of the hill.

Looking SW across the property from the top of the hill.

Looking west on Teal Avenue at the btottom of the property - the property sits on the left hand side of the road.

There is some pretty fabulous views of the Ruby Mountains! Often called the Swiss Alps of Nevada the Rubies reach up to 11,300 feet at Ruby Dome.

There is a neighbor across the street to the NE. There is another neighbor 3 lots W and the sagebrush has been cleared and there's tall grass growing. This property also has a lot of tall grass on it and there's sagebrush hidden in it - more thicker down at it's SE corner. The neighbors in the area had cute homes, one with a swanky playground set up for their kids and a cute sign along their driveway – wow was that a kids dream playground – nice! Another neighbor had a nice gentleman’s farm with horses.

The Adobe Range is located N and NW and this property sits in the lower foothills of this range as it falls down to the valley floor. She's got such cool peaks and I remember marveling at her when I first starting exploring this area - she’s different than the others - not as tall but just as interesting.

They run for about 80 miles and has an area of about 314 square miles. It’s highest peak, an unnamed summit of 8,134 feet, is on the list of Nevada’s 172 Prominent Peaks! I was thinking they should name it after Ceasar Salicchi, the Elko County Treasurer from 1971 to 2006 and my mentor! They are definitely an unsung hero compared to the Rubies but she also has lots of character in her and I remember thinking how unique some of her cool peaks are when I first started taking photos of her about fifteen years ago.

Elko County contains the majority of Nevada’s mule deer and this range is home to one of the largest mule deer and antelope herds in the state. They migrate between their summer range in the Snake and Adobe ranges to winter range in the Pequop Mountains. The N Fork of the Humboldt River borders the Adobe range to the south and east.

One of the largest herds of antelope I’ve seen in 2004 while exploring this area!

Within an hour’s drive of the property are some famous fishing holes, Wildhorse Reservoir, Ruby Lake, and South Fork Reservoir! On one of my first visits to Elko County these two nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!

Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir 60 miles north of the town of Elko. In 2011 I ran into some men who had just hauled a 350 pound elk from the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and of course I have included photos of those as well! Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about ice fishing at Wildhorse.

Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits on the SE side of the Ruby Mountains. With over 12,000 acres this area is a special habitat to over 207 species of birds providing feeding, nesting and a resting stop in the Pacific Flyway. On one of my first visits to Elko County some nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!

South Fork Reservoir and State Rec area is about 20 minutes S of Elko. It covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills and known for its trophy-class trout and bass.

A few of the animals I spotted on my way to the property!

I definitely give this 5 stars for being so close to Elko, the views of the Ruby Mountains and having power at the corner of the lot - a great spot to pull in your RV and go fishing! The homes in the area are nicely kept and I think this is such a cute place to build a home or make a getaway to hang out in the high desert sunshine! Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )

Property Maps

Prior to visiting the property I suggest you study the maps and the satellite image as they tell the story on how to get there. Get a mental picture of how to get to a property from a main road. I frequently write notes on how I got to the property.

Print out the important maps like the parcel map, aerial photo with the GPS coords and street map. These are the maps I use myself if I was going to view the property. You can enter the latitude and longitude into Google or Bing maps by putting a comma between them.

I also suggest you bring a street dedicated GPS like a Garmin, not your phone. Do not rely on your GPS to take you the correct way as she'll take you down miles of roads that aren't the main drags. I've named mine Thelma and Louise because she's tried to drive me off a cliff a few times! If I could just get Brad Pitt to sit in the back seat! : )

Most of the properties I sell are down some kind of dirt road - my favs! Be smart and bring a shovel, water, food, blankets, mace, a dog and anything else you might need if you get stuck for a day or two. I've been stuck in the sand, a marsh, had tires blow out - you name it. Be prepared, be safe, and have fun. She's a beautiful Earth. We only get one shot here - get out there and see all she has to offer. Char the Explorer : )

Elko County Area Photos

A video of my journeys thru Meadow Valley Ranchos Unit 11, the Hamilton-Bullion Trail and the South Fork State Reservoir where I sat thru a cattle drive in Elko, Nevada!

The Hamilton-Bullion Trail is an 11 mile loop for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land and over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River. South Fork covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills. Known for its trophy-class trout and bass, and bird watching.

Elko County is located in northeastern Nevada, 295 miles east of Reno and 237 miles west of Salt Lake City. With 17,135 square miles it is one of the largest counties in the USA and is the heart of NE Nevada. A book listing American towns with the highest quality of life declared Elko, Nevada, "The Best Small Town in America." It is a small city, and a booming trading and service center for a mining and ranching area roughly the size of New England. In 2005 Relocate-America.com has named Elko City as 1 of the "Top 100 Places To Live" in the United States.

The population of Elko County is over 52,000, the town of Elko is over 18,000 and the town of Spring Creek is 12,000. Lately, Elko has evolved into a showcase for Western American Folk Art. Long famous for the National Basque Festival, held each Independence Day, a new era in Elko's cultural history began in 1985, when the first Cowboy Poetry Gathering was held. Estimates are 8000 - 10000 people attended the festival this January!

The weather in Elko County is considered ideal by many. Summer finds hot, dry afternoons with temperatures in the 90s, cooling to the low 40s and 50s by morning. Winters are moderate with lows typically in the 20s or 30s. Daytime highs during the winter months are in the 40s or 50s. Snowfall averages 42 inches per year and generally melts quickly. Yearly rainfall ranges from 9 to 10.5 inches. Sunny skies are usually seen over 300 days a year!

The land is mountainous and interspersed with low, flat valleys. The Humboldt River flows through the county, with the Ruby Mountains stretching across it in a north-south direction. The elevation in the valleys is about 5000 and reaches up to 11,300 feet at Ruby Dome. The elevation of Pilot Peak on the east side of Elko County reaches up to 10,716 feet. Elko County provides unlimited recreational opportunities with fishing, big game hunting (mule deer, elk, antelope and bighorn sheep), snowmobiling, ice fishing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, boating and skiing.

A video of my first journey around the Ruby Mountains in June 2004! Includes Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, the Humboldt River and the Last Chance Ranch II by Spring Creek and Elko, Nevada!
