2.35 acres of land for sale 15 miles NE of Elko, Nevada sitting one block away from the N Fork of the Humboldt River! I could actually see the top of the bank of the river carved out of the valley floor from the property! She sits down on the valley floor where the river meanders thru and has pretty views of the Ruby Mountains and Adobe Mountains! It sits about 3 miles N of Interstate 80 so pretty quick access back to the busy town of Elko!
Most of the photos were taken about 1/4 mile north of this property in the adjoining block in June 2016. At the Elburz exit off I80, about 15 miles NE of Elko, there is a frontage road that leads along the south of the interstate. Follow that east for about 1 mile and then bend to the north where it goes under the interstate. Then head north on Columbia River Boulevard to 3rd Street. Then take Colorado River Boulevard north a little over 1/2 mile to the property. This is an overgrown dirt road but still a pretty easy drive.
I included a few photos of the N Fork of the Humboldt River that flows thru the adjoining block to the west! A few birds took off but I caught a duck out swimming. I also included a few deer we spotted north in the valley at Devil’s Gate Ranch! That’s always such a pretty drive by the ranch fields.
It was so cloudy that you could not see the Ruby Mountains rising above the hills that surround this narrow valley so I included photos taken the next day from the west hill as noted in one of the maps. So you can see this property sitting below in the green valley where the river meanders thru and beyond it the gorgeous snow capped Ruby Mountains and Elko Hills! Oh it’s a pretty setting from all the spring time moisture with wild flowers sprinkled about!
I played with Google Earth a bit and the property is mostly flat with a gentle roll from the east to the west towards the river with about a 5 foot drop slowly across it. The area is covered in healthy sagebrush, native grass and lots of wild flowers blooming! Across the street one block to the west you can see the edge of the riverbank as it cuts in against the valley floor! I’m pretty short but could still see it!
There are a few scattered trailers in the distance with a cluster of neighbors a few blocks to the S and SW but no one around in this block so lots of privacy! It looks like the closest power is a little over 1/2 mile to the SW at the neighbors and we highlighted this in one of the aerial maps. You would need to contact the local power company for the cost to bring it to the property.
This narrow valley that the N Fork of the Humboldt River flows thru has two hills that rise up on either side of it and are the lower foothills of the Adobe Mountains. You can see the Adobe Mountains rising above from the NW to the SW. They aren't near as big as the Ruby Mountains but they sure have some interesting peaks!
And then there are fabulous views of long range of the Ruby Mountains from the east to the south before they get hidden behind the Elko Hills! They sure had a lot of snow in her peaks still and I’ve heard it’s been a wet spring there! Called the Swiss Alps of Nevada she reaches up to 11,317 feet at Ruby Dome! Oh what a pretty place to watch it snow on the Rubies!
The Adobes are located N and NW of Elko and runs for about 80 miles and has an area of about 314 square miles. It’s highest summit is 8,134 feet. Most of the Adobes are a checkerboard of public (Bureau of Land Management) and private ownership.
Elko County contains the majority of Nevada’s mule deer and this range is home to one of the largest mule deer and antelope herds in the state. They migrate between their summer range in the Snake and Adobe ranges to winter range in the Pequop Mountains. The N Fork of the Humboldt River borders the Adobe range to the south and east.
One of the largest herds I’ve seen in my life in 2004 while exploring this area!
Devils Gate is a big ranch about 12 miles N and well worth the drive! When I went by the ranch in December 2014 I spotted a huge herd of mule deer out grazing in their hay field! It gives you an idea what the landscaped Adobe Mountains look like in the winter time snow.
Within an hour’s drive of the property are some famous fishing holes, Wildhorse Reservoir, Ruby Lake, and South Fork Reservoir! On one of my first visits to Elko County these two nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!
Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir 60 miles north of the town of Elko. In 2011 I ran into some men who had just hauled a 350 pound elk from the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and of course I have included photos of those as well! Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about ice fishing at Wildhorse.
Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits on the SE side of the Ruby Mountains. With over 12,000 acres this area is a special habitat to over 207 species of birds providing feeding, nesting and a resting stop in the Pacific Flyway. On one of my first visits to Elko County some nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!
South Fork Reservoir and State Rec area is about 20 minutes S of Elko. It covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills and known for its trophy-class trout and bass.
The BLM (Bureau of Land Management) map shows there is BLM land starting 1 lot to the SE. Each square on the BLM map equals one square mile. For more information on BLM land you can visit
BLM.gov.
The zoning allows for a home, manufactured home or year round RV use! I have really seen the areas along Interstate 80 continuing to grow and it seems it’s mostly the locals who buy properties out here to build a home in the country side. Yet you’re still within a reasonable drive to the bustling town of Elko for a garlic steak sandwich at the Star Hotel in downtown Elko!
I own a piece of land at the top of the hill that sits on the west overlooking this same valley and keep telling myself someday I am going to build myself a little place there and watch it snow on the Ruby Mountains! This would be a great spot for a fisherman to hang out and tie some fishing lures! Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )
