1.13 acres land for sale about 16 miles NE of Elko, Nevada with beautiful views of the Ruby Mountains and Elko Hills! It’s a stunning countryside setting about 3 hours W of Salt Lake City, Utah and 5 hours east of Reno, NV. Its only about 1.5 miles north of Interstate 80 as the crow flies, so it’s a quick drive to town for a garlic steak sandwich at the Star Hotel! There’s power about 3/10 of a mile away at the neighbors.
Most of the photos were taken about ½ mile west along the same road just over the hill in April 2013. I also included a few photos, #59 – 63, taken on this side of the hill looking east towards this property as I was leaving to show the development with nice homes and power. The image #’s are at the top of the photos.
I believe this property sits about half way between me and the brown home on the right hand side of the dirt road in image #59. Image #62 is looking that same way but I might be too zoomed in on the neighbor to show this piece of land. You’ll have to let me know when you go visit the property as that’s what my memory comes up with but Amber tells me daily Mom you’re getting old and forgetful!
It’s a pretty little part of the countryside for those looking to live pretty close to the bustling town of Elko yet still be away from it all. The neighbors are what I would call gentlemen’s farms with a few horses and corrals and a goat that I snapped pics of on the way out as well! This farm girl thought too cute!
There are decent gravel/dirt roads that lead most of the way out to the area and then a dirt road leading along the north of the property. I would come in from the east to the west following the more developed roads that take you out to the neighbors. It sits just 1.5 miles north of Interstate 80 as the crow flies as seen in the section and BLM map. Each small square on these maps represent one square mile.
The property is fairly flat with a gentle roll to it. There was lots of scattered tall healthy sagebrush, scattered natives plants and soft dirt. It was a quiet day other than the wind blowing.....brr... a cold spring day and it snowed the day before and it was still snowing on the peaks that day! There are gorgeous views to the SW and S of the Elko Hills. They are close by across the other side of the valley and have great detail in her hillsides they are so close. They had a bit of snow down her crevices still - pretty!
And then there is a big huge view of the loaded with snow Ruby Mountains from the S to the SE to the E! Oh So Pretty! : ) Often called the Swiss Alps of Nevada they rise to 11,387 feet at Ruby Dome! These mountains are the locals outdoor playground when it comes to hunting, fishing and exploring. I myself have a piece of land about 20 miles NE of Elko and hope someday to build a cabin and watch it snow on the Rubies! Dream big!
From the NW to the SW are the Adobe Range. She's got such cool peaks and I remember marveling at her when I first starting exploring this area - she’s different than the others - not as tall but just as interesting!
The Adobe Range is located N and NW of Elko, Nevada, runs for about 80 miles and has an area of about 314 square miles. Its highest point is an unnamed summit of 8,134 feet. Elko County contains the majority of Nevada’s mule deer and this range is home to one of the largest mule deer and antelope herds in the state. They migrate between their summer range in the Snake and Adobe ranges to winter range in the Pequop Mountains. The N Fork of the Humboldt River borders the Adobe range to the south and east.
Most of the Adobes are a checkerboard of public (Bureau of Land Management) and private ownership. This pattern is attributed to the Pacific Railway Act of 1862, where the federal government gave railroad companies free land in alternating sections as an incentive and a means to finance the overwhelming task of linking east with west by rail.
While researching the Adobe Mountain Range I found a posting on summitpost.org of someone that hiked to the peak. They shared how to get out to the trail and the way up to the peak. They also shared several fabulous photos overlooking across the valley and Humboldt River to the Ruby Mountains. It seems that this is becoming quite known to climbers as you will see in the photos! Cool!
This property sits about 3/4 mile east of 640 acres of BLM land as seen in the BLM and parcel map. (BLM land is in orange). You can also find more information on BLM land visit www.blm.gov.
I have really seen the areas along Interstate 80 grow since I first visited Elko. It seems it’s mostly the locals who buy properties out here to build a home in the country side yet still be within a reasonable drive to the bustling town of Elko. They put in a mini store /gas station out here along the Interstate and I snapped a picture of it in 2005.
This is a rural setting in Cowboy Country to hang out in your RV or build a home. What I think is terrific about this is it’s only about a 20 minute drive on the interstate and you're eating a garlic steak sandwich at the Star Hotel in downtown Elko! And such a pretty view of the Rubies! Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )
Within an hour’s drive of the property are some famous fishing holes, Wildhorse Reservoir, Ruby Lake, and South Fork Reservoir!
Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir 60 miles north of the town of Elko. In 2011 I ran into some men who had just hauled a 350 pound elk from the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and of course I have included photos of those as well! Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about ice fishing at Wildhorse.
Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits on the SE side of the Ruby Mountains. With over 12,000 acres this area is a special habitat to over 207 species of birds providing feeding, nesting and a resting stop in the Pacific Flyway. On one of my first visits to Elko County some nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!
South Fork Reservoir and State Rec area is about 20 minutes S of Elko. It covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills and known for its trophy-class trout and bass.
