PROPERTY INFORMATION

WELCOME TO THE ROARING 20’S!

We have drastically reduced prices on over 60% of our inventory! With tax refund season around the corner, now is the time to make your Great American Dream come true! Discover just how easy owning land is!

It’s been a while since I wrote a newsletter or blog although I post frequently to our Smile4u Land Sales page on Facebook – here's a link to come join in the chaos! Smile4u Land Sales on Facebook

So what’s been going on? This little land company sure has seen a lot of changes in almost 2 decades! I started in 2001 with me being the only employee. At times there’s been up to 9 employees, but to be honest that’s huge volumes of work managing people. The older I get the more freedom I long for. Now it is me and my assistant Sherilyn, (Lynn) and my daughter Amber still does the books.

I started 2020 with my ducks in a row!

Those who have followed us for years know that Amber and Lynn have been dear friends since grade school in Washington State. Amber moved to the big town of Phoenix a year ago and this winter Lynn joined her – literally within walking distance to her best friend! So she is now working remotely and I am delighted to say I am now working from a quiet home once again! There’s no crystal ball that gives the picture of what the future looks like but I sure love this little land company and all of the opportunities it has brought and the ones it still holds!

Lynn and Amber

Buddy will turn 15 in 2020! He has early kidney disease so his diet focuses on low protein. He wears doggie diapers at night and when we travel, although I prefer to call them “shorts” because that sounds a lot cooler! He has hearing loss and got lost 3 times this past year. But he continues to travel with me and “mark’s” many of the properties!

Headed fishing!

I just got back from Isla Mujeras, a little island off Cancun, Mexico. This is the 3rd year I’ve gone – I am blessed! I assisted once again in a shoe giveaway to 800 needy children on the island. This year was super special as my 2 high school girlfriends joined me.

I was in charge of the kids games this year and fishing for ducks and face paiting were sure a hit! Some of these children stood in line for several hours to get a pair.  And of course I whooped it up on the beach and ate some awesome food.  So thank you to my customers who have supported me over the years – you make it possible!

Fishing for ducks was definitely the hit of the day!

My foster sister Lorna painted a few hundred faces!

I spent this last year thinking about minimalism while I cleaned out a few kitchen and bathroom drawers and closets. The philosophy is about less possessions and excess stuff and living experiences instead. I chuckled when I saw I had 5 pancake turners! Ha! I used the 1, 2, 3 rule – if I had used it this past year keep it – have used it in the past 2 years probably keep it – hadn’t used it for 3 years probably get rid of. Of course really sentimental things I kept, like the chair I rocked Amber in.

In Mexico I unexpectedly found myself in a year end test! There wasn’t any hot water for the first few weeks. When I finally received hot water it was an all or nothing thing – all hot or all cold. I braved it – the price was right – year one down of my minimalism quest!

Headed to the shoe giveaway with my homemade games!

The roaring 20’s got its name from popular culture and ideas that defied the times. I find it interesting that I am once again hearing the term and am excited to see what the next decade brings. Dream Big! Char : )

1.03 & 1.13 acres in Elko County NV between Reno and Salt Lake City. There's big views of the Ruby Mountains, Elko Hills and the Adobe Mountains. These off grid lots are difficult to reach and you will need to improve a wash across the road to access. Elko County sits in the NE part of NV about 180 miles S of Twin Falls, Idaho and 290 miles NE of Reno, NV in Cowboy Country!

All of the photos were taken along the southern section line road at the 1/2 mile point. There is a wash in the road from an intermittent stream that you will need to improve to be able to reach the lots. Block 62 Lot 9 is about 1/4 mile west of the wash and Block 60 W2 of lot 9 is about 1/2 mile away. But there is no one out here and it's a beautiful view! It's in need of someone with a bulldozer and willing to do some work to fix the road!

Looking E on 13th street. The road is washed out at the bottom of the hill.

The wash is a few feet deep.

There's some decent roads that come into the SE corner of the section. A section = 1 square mile of land. There's a few others that live out in the area so the roads are improved to those points. It is difficult to find your way into the first time along bumpy roads and finding your way out is a lot easier as you can follow the neighbors tracks.

Block 60 the west half of Lot 6 is a relatively flat lot, with a view of the hill to the north. It sits 1 lot W of 640 acres of BLM land as seen in the maps. Block 62 the west half of Lot 4 is mostly flat with the NE corner up on a hill. It sits 1 block (1/4 mile) E of 1 square mile of BLM land.

The area is gentle rolling hills. You can see in the aerial photos that there are intermittent streams that run thru the area. We tried to line up the parcel map with google earth but the roads didn't match up. You will need to try and find the pins to the property to know for sure whether or not the stream touches the properties. If you can not locate them I suggest you pay a surveyor to come out and pin it for you if you, especially if you plan on improving the property.

There's an old bladed road that looks like it was suppossed to be the road that runs along the S of lot 6 and the N of lot 9. 13th Street (as it's called in the parcel map) sits to the South 1 street is the main section line road. I also see this road called Quartsite Drive.

There's only a few neighbors living within this section of land (square mile). The house to the E is abandoned although at one point it sure was a cute cabin and needs some work. There's a few RV's in the distance to the NE. Otherwise I didn't see anyone around so plenty of privacy out here! A great spot for someone looking for a spot with NO ONE around!

There are great views of the Elko Hills to the south. Looming large beyond them from the S to the SE are the Ruby Mountains! Called the Swiss Alps of Nevada, her snow capped peaks reach up to 11,317 feet at Ruby Dome.

The Adobe Mountains are from the NW to the W and this property sits in its lower foothills as they fall down to the valley floor. They sure were a pretty green from all the moisture this year and the valley was just as green!

They really are some pretty mountains to watch and such unsung beauty compared to the Rubies. She also has lots of character in her and I remember thinking how unique some of her cool peaks are when I first started taking photos of her about ten years ago. And when I took some time to look at these photos I thought the same thing again – wow those are some cool looking mountains.

They run for about 80 miles and have an area of about 314 square miles. It’s highest summit is 8,134 feet. It's on the list of Nevada’s 172 Prominent Peaks! I found a posting on summitpost.org of someone that hiked to the peak. They shared how to get out to the trail and the way up to the peak. They also shared several fabulous photos overlooking across the valley and Humboldt River to the Ruby Mountains. It seems that this is becoming quite known to climbers as you will see in the photos! Cool!

Elko County contains the majority of Nevada’s mule deer and this range is home to one of the largest mule deer and antelope herds in the state. They migrate between their summer range in the Snake and Adobe ranges to winter range in the Pequop Mountains. The N Fork of the Humboldt River borders the Adobe range to the south and east.

Most of the Adobes are a checkerboard of public (Bureau of Land Management) and private ownership and this land borders 1 square mile of BLM land (640 acres) on its southern border. This pattern is attributed to the Pacific Railway Act of 1862, where the federal government gave railroad companies free land in alternating sections as an incentive and a means to finance the overwhelming task of linking east with west by rail.

One of the largest herds of antelope I’ve seen in 2004 while exploring this area!

Within an hour’s drive of the property are some famous fishing holes, Wildhorse Reservoir, Ruby Lake, and South Fork Reservoir!

Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir 60 miles north of the town of Elko. In 2011 I ran into some men who had just hauled a 350 pound elk from the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and of course I have included photos of those as well! Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about ice fishing at Wildhorse.

Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits on the SE side of the Ruby Mountains. With over 12,000 acres this area is a special habitat to over 207 species of birds providing feeding, nesting and a resting stop in the Pacific Flyway. On one of my first visits to Elko County some nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!

South Fork Reservoir and State Rec area is about 20 minutes S of Elko. It covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills and known for its trophy-class trout and bass.

What I think is terrific about this area is that it is only about a 15 minute drive to Elko on the interstate! I myself own a piece of land a few miles northeast. I keep telling myself someday I am going to build myself a little place there and watch it snow on the Ruby Mountains! : )

I have seen quite a bit of growth out here since I started going to Elko in 2001. They put in a mini store /gas station along the Interstate at this exit and I snapped a picture of it in 2005. I frequently stop and get a great sandwich and gas up here. And so many more homes between this area and town - but still plenty of room for now! Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )

Elko County Area Photos

A video of my journeys thru Meadow Valley Ranchos Unit 11, the Hamilton-Bullion Trail and the South Fork State Reservoir where I sat thru a cattle drive in Elko, Nevada!

The Hamilton-Bullion Trail is an 11 mile loop for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land and over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River. South Fork covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills. Known for its trophy-class trout and bass, and bird watching.

Elko County is located in northeastern Nevada, 295 miles east of Reno and 237 miles west of Salt Lake City. With 17,135 square miles it is one of the largest counties in the USA and is the heart of NE Nevada. A book listing American towns with the highest quality of life declared Elko, Nevada, "The Best Small Town in America." It is a small city, and a booming trading and service center for a mining and ranching area roughly the size of New England. In 2005 Relocate-America.com has named Elko City as 1 of the "Top 100 Places To Live" in the United States.

The population of Elko County is over 52,000, the town of Elko is over 18,000 and the town of Spring Creek is 12,000. Lately, Elko has evolved into a showcase for Western American Folk Art. Long famous for the National Basque Festival, held each Independence Day, a new era in Elko's cultural history began in 1985, when the first Cowboy Poetry Gathering was held. Estimates are 8000 - 10000 people attended the festival this January!

The weather in Elko County is considered ideal by many. Summer finds hot, dry afternoons with temperatures in the 90s, cooling to the low 40s and 50s by morning. Winters are moderate with lows typically in the 20s or 30s. Daytime highs during the winter months are in the 40s or 50s. Snowfall averages 42 inches per year and generally melts quickly. Yearly rainfall ranges from 9 to 10.5 inches. Sunny skies are usually seen over 300 days a year!

The land is mountainous and interspersed with low, flat valleys. The Humboldt River flows through the county, with the Ruby Mountains stretching across it in a north-south direction. The elevation in the valleys is about 5000 and reaches up to 11,300 feet at Ruby Dome. The elevation of Pilot Peak on the east side of Elko County reaches up to 10,716 feet. Elko County provides unlimited recreational opportunities with fishing, big game hunting (mule deer, elk, antelope and bighorn sheep), snowmobiling, ice fishing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, boating and skiing.

A video of my first journey around the Ruby Mountains in June 2004! Includes Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, the Humboldt River and the Last Chance Ranch II by Spring Creek and Elko, Nevada!
