I sure love Buddy's toothless smile! He lost his first few teeth playing "The Bones Are All Mine" with his sister Angel, a big yellow lab when he was about 3. He would take all her rawhide bones, line them up under my desk in a perfect row and guard them with his life. At times there were 6 or 7 bones. Bones are a great way to give an energetic dog hours of jaw exercise and we dealt with Buddy's control issue by buying them in bulk at Costco and handed Angel new ones frequently.

One day Angel decided she was done playing the game. It went down in front of me, she told him that was her bone and warned him not to take it. He stepped forward and took it anyway. She opened her jaw and wrapped it around his neck and pushed him down. He screamed bloody murder and wiggled fiercly trying to get away. Before I knew it she let him go, no puncture wounds, no scrapes. But a few months later his breath smelled like he was eating rotten meat and out came a few rotten teeth! I think Angel gets credit for 5 of the missing 8 teeth in his mouth.

Then there's the time with the coyote. I usually only let Buddy go outside in the morning if all my other big dogs are out with him. But one morning I had 2 females inside as I was taking them to get spayed. I heard my big dog let out a roar and saw a coyote taking off across the field. I let my two females out and watched them chase the coyote the rest of the way off the property and started calling for Buddy. I searched for about 45 minutes realizing I was on a recovery mission, my heart broken.

As I came back to the house I saw Buddy being brought up the hill by my 5 other dogs! He was limping bad, covered in blood and mud, oh you should have seen him - the most beautiful sight to my eyes! My little tough man was alive! He had been wearing a spiked Harley collar and the 12 or so puncture wounds on his neck only went so deep! And that coyote who gets credit for the other 3 missing teeth, well you should have seen it running away after meeting Bud the Stud!

So my boyfriend is now usually seen sleeping with his tongue hanging out his mouth, but I happen to think he's still good looking! How coud I not love that smile! I've cared for hundreds of animals in my life but never before have I met an animal like him. Whether I'm laughing, crying, cleaning, cooking, meditating, sleeping or exploring, there he is!

0.29 acre building lot for sale overlooking the Village of Capitan, New Mexico, home of Smokey Bear! It's just off the Billy the Kid Scenic Byway, covered in beautiful trees, has power next door and water in street! My oh my is she pretty sitting in the hills - I gave this one 2 thumbs up!

All of the photos were taken of the property and its surrounding views in August 2016. I also included a few photos taken across the other side of the highway 1/4 mile away looking at the hill that the property sits on! Promise Lane is a graveled road that runs along the south of the property. It sits less than 1/4 mile from paved Highway 48 aka the Billy the Kid Scenic Byway! There is power at the adjoining neighbors to the north as seen in the photos and aerial maps. You will need to call Otero Electric to see the cost to bring power to the lot. There is water in the street that you can pay to connect to so you do not have to drill a well!

My notes say "my oh my is she pretty sitting in the hills overlooking the Village of Capitan sitting in the valley below." It's surrounded by huge mountains, the Sacramento Mountains and the Capitan Mountains! The Capitan Mountains are home of Smokey Bear and his remains are buried there!

It is easy access all of the way to the property. It drops down a few feet off the road and then starts a rolling hill down to the north with some flatter parts to it. It's covered in pretty trees, bits of catcus, prickly pear, cholla, lots of grass, rabbit poop and a few animal trails! There are two neighbors below with nice kept homes as seen in the photos and aerial photos. I also took a few photos across the other side of Highway 48 to the west about 1/4 mile looking towards the hill that this property sits on. You can see the property sitting right above the house with the blue roof in images #60 & 61.The image #'s are at the top of the photos.

You could hear the traffic below along the highway but I could also hear the wind blowing and birds signing and did not find it intrusive. She's so pretty I gave it my "bag of chips & the clip" award with 2 thumbs up! Imagine sitting and looking across to where Smokey Bear rests!

The property sits about 2 miles SW of the Smokey Bear Museum and the Oso Grill. Oso means bear in Spanish. We stopped and had a quick bite to eat there and it was a busy place and great food! I also attended the Lincoln County Fair in Capitan and included several photos and a video of that as well - my first pig show ever!

This was my first visit to Lincoln County tax sale and wow what a memory! We spent a few days researching properties and discovering this ultimate playground in the southwest! By far Capitan was my favorite town as I've been a Smokey Bear fan for years and am a small town girl myself! I had no idea ahead of time his remains were here and she is such a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains!

This is the very first property I've ever put up for sale in the area! I sure think it would be a beautiful spot to build a home or getaway and enjoy the Land of Enchantment! Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )

Lincoln County Area Photos of Carrizozo, White Oaks, Capitan, Ruidoso and Alto!

Welcome to Lincoln County, New Mexico, the ultimate playground in the southwest from Sierra Blanca aka the White Mountains at 11,981 feet to the beautiful open valleys of Carrizozo at 5429 feet. Wow was my head spinning the first time I visited here in 2016!

A video of our trip around Lincoln County!

Carrizozo sits in the shadows of the Sacramento Mountain Range at the northern edge of the Tularosa Basin. It’s a quiet little town and the county seat about 45 minutes NW of Ruidoso. About 15 minutes NE is the ghost mining town of White Oaks, famous for the No Scum Allowed Saloon. We headed up there our first night to see if they truly had some of the coldest beer in Lincoln County to find them closed! But it’s a cute little town and I enjoyed the historical buildings over 100 years old!

Since we didn’t find any cold beer we decided to visit the Lincoln County Fair in Capitan! That sure was a fun time and my first pig show I must admit! I took so many photos of it that I made an entire video of just the fair! It was a small friendly fair and I’m sure I stuck out like a sore thumb, especially after my comment about the “sparkly pig”. The gal who was getting ready to go into the arena with her pig looked at me and said no that’s just the pig! Wow was that some serious pig driving as I watched two women keep their pig in the judges view as best as possible! Well turns out he was a sparkly pig as they took away the blue ribbon! Hot dog! I also got several photos of a mean goat giving several good head butts to a baby goat. It’s funny now looking at the photos but it wasn’t so funny at the moment! I learned that there really is a duck with a pom pom hairdo called a crested duck! I thought someone had somehow done that to them!

The Lincoln Count Fair in Capitan!

Capitan is also home of Smokey Bear. I’ve been a huge fan of his since I started traveling across the western USA, frequently stopping to take my picture with him when I see his fire danger signs! Oh I was thrilled when I finally got a chance to stop into the museum. As I walked in I declared “my life is now complete” and the gal behind the counter laughed and said I definitely wasn’t the first one to come thru those doors and say that! So a quick picture with my hero!

In 1950 a fire destroyed 17,000 of forest and grasslands. A fire crew found the frightened bear cub clinging for life to the side of a burnt pine tree. He was so badly burnt they named him “Smokey Bear”. He was flown to Sante Fe and upon recovery was sent to a zoo in Washington DC. In 1962 NM adopted the Black Bear as the State Animal and sent him a bear companion, Goldie. Upon his death in 1976 he returned to his home in the Capitan Mountains.

The mountain village of Ruidoso is a thriving scene people flock to all four seasons! It’s 100 miles to the closest interstate and 2 hours from the nearest commercial airport yet people come here year round for winter skiing at Ski Apache, summer hiking and fishing, golf courses, art galleries, restaurants, and to relax with to the smell of pine trees and streams winding their way thru the forest. It is surrounded by the Lincoln National Forest and there is a network of hiking trails! We spotted deer and elk while driving around town and read that black bear, wild horses and the rare mountain lion also call this home!

It’s also home of the Ruidoso Downs Race Track, a tradition since the 1940’s. It’s famous for the showcase All American Futurity, the world’s richest two year old race which was a $3 million purse in 2015! The Labor Day event drew a record of 25,000 fans which is more than live in Lincoln County!

Billy the Kid Scenic Byway visitors center sits next door to the Hubbard Museum of the American West. I didn’t get a chance to view the museum but the beautiful monuments of horses outside the museum was well worth the drive by! Billy, born Henry McCarty, was an American Old West gunfighter who joined the Regulators and participated in the Lincoln County War. The Kid allegedly shot and killed two deputies, but was never indicted for the murders.
