HAPPY 12TH BIRTHDAY BUDDY! IF YOU GO BY THE RULE OF THUMB THAT 1 HUMAN YEAR = 7 DOG YEARS THAT MAKES BUDDY 84!

I sure love Buddy's toothless smile! He lost his first few teeth playing "The Bones Are All Mine" with his sister Angel, a big yellow lab when he was about 3. He would take all her rawhide bones, line them up under my desk in a perfect row and guard them with his life. At times there were 6 or 7 bones. Bones are a great way to give an energetic dog hours of jaw exercise and we dealt with Buddy's control issue by buying them in bulk at Costco and handed Angel new ones frequently. One day Angel decided she was done playing the game. It went down in front of me, she told him that was her bone and warned him not to take it. He stepped forward and took it anyway. She opened her jaw and wrapped it around his neck and pushed him down. He screamed bloody murder and wiggled fiercly trying to get away. Before I knew it she let him go, no puncture wounds, no scrapes. But a few months later his breath smelled like he was eating rotten meat and out came a few rotten teeth! I think Angel gets credit for 5 of the missing 8 teeth in his mouth. Then there's the time with the coyote. I usually only let Buddy go outside in the morning if all my other big dogs are out with him. But one morning I had 2 females inside as I was taking them to get spayed. I heard my big dog let out a roar and saw a coyote taking off across the field. I let my two females out and watched them chase the coyote the rest of the way off the property and started calling for Buddy. I searched for about 45 minutes realizing I was on a recovery mission, my heart broken. As I came back to the house I saw Buddy being brought up the hill by my 5 other dogs! He was limping bad, covered in blood and mud, oh you should have seen him - the most beautiful sight to my eyes! My little tough man was alive! He had been wearing a spiked Harley collar and the 12 or so puncture wounds on his neck only went so deep! And that coyote who gets credit for the other 3 missing teeth, well you should have seen it running away after meeting Bud the Stud!

SO HE'S MISSING A FEW TEETH! I THINK THAT MAKES HIS SMILE MORE HANDSOME!

So my boyfriend is now usually seen sleeping with his tongue hanging out his mouth, but I happen to think he's still good looking! How coud I not love that smile! I've cared for hundreds of animals in my life but never before have I met an animal like him. Whether I'm laughing, crying, cleaning, cooking, meditating, sleeping or exploring, there he is!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY TOOTHLESS WONDER!

Timberon Unit 8 Block 83 Lot 20 SOLD Timberon Unit 8 Block 87 Lot 18 Available

0.4 and 0.5 acre lots for sale in Timberon, New Mexico with some pretty tall pine trees, water in the streets and power in the area. Nestled high in the Sacramento Mountains around 7200 feet, these lots are about 140 miles NE of El Paso Texas and 50 miles SE of Alamogordo, NM. Both properties are walking distance to the Lincoln National Forest! With water already in the street and power close by it’s a perfect place for a cabin, home or RV! All of the photos were taken of the properties in July 2016. Pics 1 - 30 are of lot 20 and pics 31-64 are of lot 18. They sit on the far west side of Timberon and there is great access to both of the properties on graveled Arapaho Drive. This part of Timberon has big huge pine trees and they are lovely lots as seen in the photos. Lot #20 sits about 500 feet east of the National Forest. It is fairly flat on its west side and then slopes down east to the road. Lot # 18 sits about 1/2 mile east of the National Forest. It has a slope down off the road to the south to a low spot between two rolling hills. Both properties had lots of big tall pine trees and other trees, old tangled wood, and lots of grass. Lot #20 was thinned of the underbrush and had lots of grass. Lot #18 had more underbrush and trees and it was thick walking thru this lot. There is water in the street to both of the properties which is called standby water. If you wanted to hook up to water you would simply need to pay the connection fee and save the cost of drilling for a well! The annual fee for standby water is $61.15 per year. The power map indicated there is power across the street one lot east of block 83 lot 20. And along the backside of block 87 lot 18. You will need to contact the power company to verify this information and the cost to bring it to the property. The zoning allows for homes, double-wide mobile homes, as well as 30 days per year of recreational RV use. If a septic was installed you would be able to use it up to 180 days per year with a recreational vehicle. Timberon adjoins the Lincoln National Forest which provides for many recreational activities. It also offers many amenities such as a 9-hole golf course with seasonal pro shop, a 4,750 foot long private airstrip for small planes, helicopter pad, seasonal swimming pool, fire station, convenience stores, RV Park, and more! There is a $30 Facility and Services Fee to help maintain these amenities. It’s about a 45 minute beautiful scenic drive south of Cloudcroft, the main town on this part of the mountain that has skiing in the wintertime. Alamogordo is the next largest city about an hour away and has just about anything you need there including a Wal-Mart and several hotels and restaurants. The first time we visited Timberon we entered through the south entrance which winds through the military range which is where the wild oryx were. This is quite the journey with signs posted along the way warning you not to leave the road! We then journeyed through some old dry river beds before winding our way into Timberon. I am glad now we came in this way or I still would have yet to see an oryx in the wild! Of course there is a much quicker way into Timberon if you just stick to the main road! But what fun would that be?! Someone emailed us once saying we were a disgrace for setting up plastic deer and taking pictures of them along with the oryx that were from Africa. We sent him a few links regarding the area and received a very nice email in return! He was a native of New Mexico who had no idea what was in his own back yard but was off to see it! We included a few photos of both of these in the additional photos section – awesome! I spent two days exploring Timberon in July 2016 and included several photos below of my first journey here! With water in the street and power close by this would be a great spot for a home or cabin hidden in the woods! Enjoy! Amber : )

Amber's Adventure Around Timberon in July 2016!

Hi! I’m Amber, Char’s daughter, and it’s time you get to know a little bit about me. I started working full time at Smile4u in June of 2013 and took over keeping the office in line while my mom explores. I've taken a few short trips to Elko, Nevada including the Elko County tax sale and I stopped by the Las Animas Ranches in Southern Colorado in August 2015 on my way to a family reunion in Kansas. Recently, my mom has decided to let me take over creating the listings so she can focus on her other goals for Smile4u, so I guess it’s my time to shine! This is my trip to Otero County in July 2016.

We arrived in Alamogordo in the evening the first day and checked into the Magnuson Hotel & Suites. The next morning was the Otero County Tax Sale at 9am. My mom bid on the properties while I watched (little did I know she would force me to do it all by myself 10 days later at the Lincoln County tax sale). One of our biggest competitors was also at the sale and we had lunch with after him at the Jam-ing Hotdogs & More shack in Alamogordo (5/5 Stars for a greasy hot dog!). After lunch we traveled to Timberon together to start our first combined land expedition!

My mom hadn’t been to Timberon since 2006, and by the looks of what I saw as we entered the subdivision I can’t imagine why she never went back after. It was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Being a Washington native, now in the Arizona desert, the heavily treed scenery of Timberon was a nice change and made me slightly home sick. We entered the subdivision on Sacramento Dr., a nice paved/graveled road. Mom was pointing out all the new businesses that had popped up since she was last there. The Timberon New Village Hardware and General Store had just opened up. Nonnie’s Restaurant also looked new to her, located in the Timberon Lodge near the swimming pool.

We worked our way through Units 10, 8, 3 and 6. We spent some extra time in Unit 8 and I quickly fell in love with the tall Ponderosa Pines and grassy ground. I imagined myself sitting outside on a hammock strung up between the trees, reading a good book in the sun for a few hours.

All the birds were chirping their hellos to us and we even got to meet a few of the local wild turkeys and mule deer.

Even though it was the end of July, I felt the temperature was fairly mild. Having acclimated to Arizona already, I found the temperature in Timberon to be slightly chilly when the breeze picked up. We drove around Timberon until the last of the sun’s light ran out on us. On the way back we debated driving back to Alamogordo, but soon into our drive one of the largest lightning storms I have ever witnessed hit us, so we decided to stay in Cloudcroft about 45 minutes away, which is modeled after a pioneer village. The rooms were cozy with a rustic feel – my mom mentioned how she hadn’t had a shower in a clawfoot tub since her grandmother’s house!

A popular getaway in the Sacramento Mountains, Cloudcroft sits at an elevation of 9,000 feet, making it perfect for a summer getaway in the high mountains as well as a desired skiing destination. In the morning we ate breakfast at Big Daddy’s Diner. I just HAD to try their fried PB&J sandwich, which I would order again in a heartbeat. Day Two of my journey into Timberon focused on Units 14 and 13. Unit 14 was very quiet but still had some development in it. This would be my personal 2nd favorite Unit in Timberon that we explored. Power at most of the properties and one even adjoined the National Forest!

The second part of the day was spent navigating Unit 13. There aren’t a lot of roads in this unit, however we were able to see a few of the properties. These are great properties for someone who doesn’t want to be found. One of the last properties we stopped at sat atop a hill with a view of the rest of the Subdivision to the West and a great view of the beautiful ridges of the Sacramento Mountains to the East. What a perfect area for someone to go to get away from it all!

Timberon sits in the Sacramento Mountains of South-Central New Mexico. The Sacramento Mountains extend for 85 miles and includes towns such as Cloudcroft and Ruidoso, and is also part of the Lincoln National Forest. Coming from El Paso, you don't really notice the elevation change in the mountains until you have reached the Western edge and are able to see the Tularosa Basin and Alamogordo, 4,000 feet below.

This area is home to two observatories, the National Solar Observatory at Sacramento Peak and the Apache Pointe Observatory. We briefly stopped at the Sunspot Astronomy and Visitor Center which is open to the public. There are signs along the Sunspot Highway from Cloudcroft to Timberon, which feature planet names. The closer you get to the observatory, the closer the planet is to the sun.

Its been a while since Smile4u has offered Timberon for sale and it's a treat to own one here again!

Otero County Area and Timberon Subdivision Photos

Otero County Area and Timberon Subdivision Photos

All of these photos were taken on our journeys to Otero County and the Timberon.

Timberon is nestled high in the Sacramento Mountains 32 miles S of Cloudcroft, 1.5 hours SE of Alamogordo, and 100 miles N of El Paso, Texas. It is surrounded by the Lincoln National Forest, BLM lands, White Sands Desert and State lands.

The Sacramento Mountains are a year round play ground for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hunting, camping, skiing and snowmobiling.

One of my favorite photos I've taken in my life was the oryx I spotted on my way to Timberon for my first time. We took the wrong way up the mountain and came in from the S of Timberon which winds through the military range which is where the oryx live. There's signs posted along the way warning you not to leave the road because unexploded devices may exist! At times we lost the road as it took us thru dry river beds - sort of a scary drive but adventurous.

93 African oryx were introduced here in 1969 and they’ve grown to about 2000 today. They weigh on average up to 450 pounds and stand 47 inches tall at the shoulder. Their horns average 34 inches long! Their distinctive black and white markings enable them to hide among desert shrubs. That was one of the best wrong ways I ever took!

At 7000 feet, it is a big forest filled with an abundance of deer, elk and turkeys roaming, tall pines and junipers and cool temperatures during the hot summer months. Some 350 people call this 9000 acres home and there is mail delivery here. It remains largely undeveloped with most using their property during the summer time for recreation.

It offers a nine hole golf course, a runway to accommodate small airplanes, fishing lakes, a swimming pool, restaurants, grocery store and a lodge.

A bit of interesting history about Timberon: It was originally purchased by Judge Paul Moss in 1933 from the State of New Mexico. Judge Moss was interested in using the land for agriculture and entertainment of guests for hunting with the abundance of wildlife. His son, William, married Jane Withers, a former child star known for her role in Bright Eyes. Jane and William stayed in Timberon frequently and brought many other Hollywood stars with them to enjoy the secluded beauty of their private forest. In 2016 Amber visited Timberon for her first time and spent two days exploring the area and different units. We met up with our biggest competitor, Kent from 1881, and they worked together finding the properties while I sat in the back seat with my boyfriend Buddy! I sure enjoyed someone else doing all the work for once and she sure enjoyed exploring Timberon!

We spent the night in Cloudcroft at the Cloudcroft Hotel which is modeled after a pioneer village as much of the town is - fun! This is a popular tourist town high in the mountains at 9,000 feet, making it perfect for a cool summer getaway and ski destination in the winter. In the morning we checked out Big Daddy's Diner where she gave their fried PB&J sandwich 2 thumbs up!

Coming from El Paso, you don't really notice the elevation change in the mountains until you have reached the western edge and are able to see the Tularosa Basin and Alamogordo 4,000 feet below! I stop every time and take photos!

Lincoln County adjoins Otero County to the N. The Sacramento Mountains extend for 85 miles into both of these counties and is the home of Timberon, Cloudcroft, Ruidoso, Carrizozo, Capitan, and is also part of the Lincoln National Forest.

The forest consists of three ranger districts: Sacramento, Smokey Bear and Guadalupe. There are three major mountain ranges: Sacramento, Guadalupe and Capitan that cover 1,103,441 acres in parts of four counties in SE New Mexico. Elevations range from 4,000 to 11,500 feet and pass through five different life zones from Chihuahuan desert to sub-alpine forest.

A video of our trip around Lincoln County!

We spent some time exploring the Lincoln Forest in 2016 and visited Capitan, home of Smokey Bear. I've been a huge fan of his since I started traveling across the western USA, frequently stopping to take my picture with him when I see his fire danger signs! Oh I was thrilled when I finally got a chance to stop into the museum. As I walked in I declared "my life is now complete" and the gal behind the counter laughed and said I definitely wasn't the first one to come thru those doors and say that! So a quick picture with my hero!

Capitan is also home of the Lincoln County Fair! That sure was a fun time and my first pig show I must admit! I took so many photos of it that I made an entire video of just the fair! It was a small friendly fair and I'm sure I stuck out like a sore thumb, especially after my comment about the sparkly pig. The gal who was getting ready to go into the arena with her pig looked at me and said no that's just the pig!

Wow was that some serious pig driving as I watched two women keep their pig in the judges view as best as possible! Well turns out he was a sparkly pig as they took away the blue ribbon!

The Lincoln Count Fair in Capitan!
