PROPERTY INFORMATION

1.13 acres of land for sale in Elko, Nevada located in a scenic area in the lower foothills of the Elko Hills overlooking town, the Humboldt River and the Adobe Mountains. It’s about 5 miles SW of town of the crow flies and about 1/3 of a mile off the historical Hamilton-Bullion Trail! Elko County sits in the NE part of NV about 180 miles S of Twin Falls, Idaho and 290 miles NE of Reno, NV in Cowboy Country!

All of the photos were taken in September 2016 looking at the property directly across the street to the south. I accidently shot the wrong property however you can see this property in the photos looking below where the truck was parked in front of this property. I believe you can see this property best in images #31 – 33. We dropped down the tailgate that night and watched the sun set over the Adobe Mountains from right in front of this property – wow was that stunning and relaxing! The pictures are worth a thousand words!

We took Bullion Road SW of out Elko and that graveled road runs about 1/3 of a mile west of this property. From there we took a bladed dirt road that was in pretty decent shape and it looks like the neighbors are maintaining it. It was overgrown more from the intersection to the west about 2.5 acres (two lots). You can see this in image #1 looking west down 15th Street (the image numbers are at the top of the images).

The property sits in one of the first foothills of the Elko Hills, just a bit off the valley floor offering a fantastic view of the valley with the town to the NE! It's such a pretty view from the NW to the NE of the N Fork of the Humboldt River meandering thru the valley with the Adobe Mountains beyond! You can also see Interstate 80 and the railroad running along it in the distance. The city has their treatment plant in the distance and you can see this square black pond in image #35.

The town of Elko is so close by you can see the local businesses and new growth with your naked eye! I have really seen this side of Elko growing since I first started exploring here in 2002. There is a newer bridge overpass over the Humboldt River in town that making easy access to Bullion Road. There are several new homes being built about 5 miles NE along Bullion Road on your way to town called Hamilton Stage with prices starting at over $250,000! I included a few photos of that in the Additional Photos area. I think this is a great investment!

Bullion Road turns into the Hamilton-Bullion Trail and runs right thru Meadow Valley Ranches Unit 11 about 1/3 of a mile west of this property. It continues on to the top of the Elko Hills. This 11 mile loop was made with efforts from the Elko Convention and Visitors Authority and the BLM to establish a route for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land - a pretty cool trail that takes you over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River. So definitely this is a fun area up in the top of the hills. I've been to South Fork Reservoir a few times now and included photos of that hot spot for fishing and bird watching in the additional photos area below! Sounds fun to me to take a horse ride on it…hint, hint if anyone’s going! : )

The Adobe Range is located N and NW of Elko, Nevada, runs for about 80 miles and has an area of about 314 square miles. Its highest point is an unnamed summit of 8,134 feet. Elko County contains the majority of Nevada’s mule deer and this range is home to one of the largest mule deer and antelope herds in the state. They migrate between their summer range in the Snake and Adobe ranges to winter range in the Pequop Mountains. The N Fork of the Humboldt River borders the Adobe range to the south and east.

Most of the Adobes are a checkerboard of public (Bureau of Land Management) and private ownership. This pattern is attributed to the Pacific Railway Act of 1862, where the federal government gave railroad companies free land in alternating sections as an incentive and a means to finance the overwhelming task of linking east with west by rail.

While researching the Adobe Mountain Range I found a posting on summitpost.org of someone that hiked to the peak. They shared how to get out to the trail and the way up to the peak. They also shared several fabulous photos overlooking across the valley and Humboldt River to the Ruby Mountains. It seems that this is becoming quite known to climbers as you will see in the photos! Cool!

Within an hour’s drive of the property are some famous fishing holes, Wildhorse Reservoir, Ruby Lake, and South Fork Reservoir!

Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir 60 miles north of the town of Elko. In 2011 I ran into some men who had just hauled a 350 pound elk from the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and of course I have included photos of those as well! Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about ice fishing at Wildhorse.

Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits on the SE side of the Ruby Mountains. With over 12,000 acres this area is a special habitat to over 207 species of birds providing feeding, nesting and a resting stop in the Pacific Flyway. On one of my first visits to Elko County some nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!

South Fork Reservoir and State Rec area is about 20 minutes S of Elko. It covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills and known for its trophy-class trout and bass.
Once you make it back to town be sure and stop at my favorite Basque restaurant, the Star Hotel for one of their fabulous garlic steak sandwiches! In 1959 a Basque tradition began with a celebration that brought sheepherders and cattle ranchers into town for a day of celebration. Now known as the National Basque Festival, this event takes place around the 4th of July at the Elko County Fairgrounds.

I love the hills that overlook Elko and I think it would be a great getaway spot for someone to hang out in their RV and enjoy the deer I've seen out here several times, pretty sunsets and a good investment in the meantime. Or if you are looking for a beautiful cheap off grid building spot imagine the change in the colors in valley below and mountain sides with the seasons! Char the Explorer : )

Elko County Area Photos

A video of my journeys thru Meadow Valley Ranchos Unit 11, the Hamilton-Bullion Trail and the South Fork State Reservoir where I sat thru a cattle drive in Elko, Nevada!

The Hamilton-Bullion Trail is an 11 mile loop ]for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land and over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River.

South Fork covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills. Known for its trophy-class trout and bass, and bird watching.

Elko County is located in northeastern Nevada, 295 miles east of Reno and 237 miles west of Salt Lake City. With 17,135 square miles it is one of the largest counties in the USA and is the heart of NE Nevada. A book listing American towns with the highest quality of life declared Elko, Nevada, "The Best Small Town in America." It is a small city, and a booming trading and service center for a mining and ranching area roughly the size of New England. In 2005 Relocate-America.com has named Elko City as 1 of the "Top 100 Places To Live" in the United States.

The population of Elko County is over 52,000, the town of Elko is over 18,000 and the town of Spring Creek is 12,000. Lately, Elko has evolved into a showcase for Western American Folk Art. Long famous for the National Basque Festival, held each Independence Day, a new era in Elko's cultural history began in 1985, when the first Cowboy Poetry Gathering was held. Estimates are 8000 - 10000 people attended the festival this January!

The weather in Elko County is considered ideal by many. Summer finds hot, dry afternoons with temperatures in the 90s, cooling to the low 40s and 50s by morning. Winters are moderate with lows typically in the 20s or 30s. Daytime highs during the winter months are in the 40s or 50s. Snowfall averages 42 inches per year and generally melts quickly. Yearly rainfall ranges from 9 to 10.5 inches. Sunny skies are usually seen over 300 days a year!

The land is mountainous and interspersed with low, flat valleys. The Humboldt River flows through the county, with the Ruby Mountains stretching across it in a north-south direction. The elevation in the valleys is about 5000 and reaches up to 11,300 feet at Ruby Dome. The elevation of Pilot Peak on the east side of Elko County reaches up to 10,716 feet. Elko County provides unlimited recreational opportunities with fishing, big game hunting (mule deer, elk, antelope and bighorn sheep), snowmobiling, ice fishing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, boating and skiing.

A video of my first journey around the Ruby Mountains in June 2004! Includes Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, the Humboldt River and the Last Chance Ranch II by Spring Creek and Elko, Nevada!
