PROPERTY INFORMATION

Meadow Valley Ranchos Unit 12 Block 25 Lot 5 Available
Meadow Valley Ranchos Unit 12 Block 25 Lot 7 Sold

1.03 and 1.14 acres of land for sale in Elko, Nevada 5 miles SW of town in the lower foothills of the Elko Hills. Off grid investment property has views of the Humboldt River meandering thru the farms and crop lands and the town of Elko! Elko County sits in the NE part of NV about 180 miles S of Twin Falls, Idaho between Reno and Salt Lake City, Utah.

All of the photos were taken in October 2014 only one block SW and we noted this in the map sections. So you can see these lots looking N and NE in images 14, 15 and 32 - 35. The image numbers are at the top of the photos. We took Bullion Road from Elko out to this area. This is a bladed dirt/graveled road that can be bumpy at times but the county does maintain it. They sit 2 and 4 lots off Reese Avenue on 12th Street. Reese was a decent bladed dirt road seen in the photos.

I played with Google Earth a bit and followed this road to the bottom of the subdivision and then west a little over ¼ mile where it turns south and crosses a cattle guard. It leads to the S Fork of the Humboldt River which flows out of the Elko Hills. I’m not sure if there is a locked gate as it looks like it goes out on to private property. I noticed a car was parked by the river that day and I wonder how many people know about this little spot – I just found it! If you go check it out you’ll have to let me know!

There is also BLM land one block to the south. You can see in the BLM map that this section (square mile) of land is ¾ BLM land and then ¼ private land which is part of the farm. So I’m not sure if you can drive down to this river but you can go for a walk on the BLM land!

The properties have a gentle slope down off the lower foothills of the Elko Hills from the south to the north as it falls down to the valley floor. It’s nicely covered in healthy tall sage brush and soft dirt. It sure was a beautiful afternoon and I could hear the train whistle and the birds chirping. We found a cool old cow skull and hauled it home to add to our collection!

The views of the Elko Hills from the SW to the SE are beautiful and unique with a cool rock peak at the top of a mountains to the south. To the west is a beautiful view of the S Fork of the Humboldt River as it meanders thru the valley floor, farms, crops, stacks of hay and groves of trees. Oh I love that view and there sure were some pretty fall colors in the reeds and lone tree!

From the NW to NE are the Adobe Mountains across the other side of the narrow valley. She's got such cool peaks and I remember marveling at her when I first starting exploring this area - she’s different than the others - not as tall but just as interesting! The range is located N and NW of Elko and runs for about 80 miles covering an area of about 314 square miles. Its highest point is an unnamed summit of 8,134 feet. Elko County contains the majority of Nevada’s mule deer and this range is home to one of the largest mule deer and antelope herds in the state. They migrate between their summer range in the Snake and Adobe ranges to winter range in the Pequop Mountains. The N Fork of the Humboldt River borders the Adobe range to the south and east.

Most of the Adobes are a checkerboard of public (Bureau of Land Management) and private ownership. This pattern is attributed to the Pacific Railway Act of 1862, where the federal government gave railroad companies free land in alternating sections as an incentive and a means to finance the overwhelming task of linking east with west by rail. While researching the Adobe Mountain Range I found a posting on summitpost.org of someone that hiked to the peak. They shared how to get out to the trail and the way up to the peak. They also shared several fabulous photos overlooking across the valley and Humboldt River to the Ruby Mountains. It seems that this is becoming quite known to climbers as you will see in the photos! Cool!

The Ruby Mountains sit south behind the Elko Hills. At times you get a peek of them looming large above the Elko Hills and you’re going to need to view the property to know if you can see them. Often called the Swiss Alps of Nevada they rise to 11,387 feet at Ruby Dome! These mountains are the locals outdoor playground when it comes to hunting, fishing and exploring.

The Hamilton-Bullion Trail is 1.5 miles east as the crow flies and that’s a quick drive to the top of the Elko Hills! This 11 mile loop was made with efforts from the Elko Convention and Visitors Authority and the BLM to establish a route for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land - a pretty cool trail that takes you over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River. So definitely this is a fun area up in the top of the hills. I've been to South Fork Reservoir a few times now and included photos of that hot spot for fishing and bird watching in the additional photos area below! Sounds fun to me to take a horse ride on it!

Interstate 80 and the railroad sit a little over a mile north. The town of Elko sits to the NE and you can see the stores, homes and growth on this end of the town! I have really seen this side of Elko growing since I first started exploring here in 2002. There is a newer bridge overpass over the Humboldt River in town that making easy access to Bullion Road. There are several new homes being built about 4.5 miles NE off Bullion Road at Hamilton Stage with prices starting at over $250,000 and I included a few photos of that in the Additional Photos area.

And once you make it to town be sure and stop at my favorite Basque restaurant, the Star Hotel for one of their fabulous garlic steak sandwiches! In 1959 a Basque tradition began with a celebration that brought sheepherders and cattle ranchers into town for a day of celebration. Now known as the National Basque Festival, this event takes place around the 4th of July at the Elko County Fairgrounds.

I love this part tucked away just outside of Elko by the Elko Hills. I think it would be an excellent investment or a beautiful spot with no one around for someone to build an off grid home. Or just hang out in your RV for now and watch the change in the colors in valley and mountain sides with the seasons! Char the Explorer : )

Within an hour’s drive of the property are some famous fishing holes, Wildhorse Reservoir, Ruby Lake, and South Fork Reservoir!

Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir 60 miles north of the town of Elko. In 2011 I ran into some men who had just hauled a 350 pound elk from the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and of course I have included photos of those as well! Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about ice fishing at Wildhorse.

Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits on the SE side of the Ruby Mountains. With over 12,000 acres this area is a special habitat to over 207 species of birds providing feeding, nesting and a resting stop in the Pacific Flyway. On one of my first visits to Elko County some nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!

South Fork Reservoir and State Rec area is about 20 minutes S of Elko. It covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills and known for its trophy-class trout and bass.

Elko County Area Photos

A video of my journeys thru Meadow Valley Ranchos Unit 11, the Hamilton-Bullion Trail and the South Fork State Reservoir where I sat thru a cattle drive in Elko, Nevada!

The Hamilton-Bullion Trail is an 11 mile loop ]for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land and over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River.

South Fork covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills. Known for its trophy-class trout and bass, and bird watching.

Elko County is located in northeastern Nevada, 295 miles east of Reno and 237 miles west of Salt Lake City. With 17,135 square miles it is one of the largest counties in the USA and is the heart of NE Nevada. A book listing American towns with the highest quality of life declared Elko, Nevada, "The Best Small Town in America." It is a small city, and a booming trading and service center for a mining and ranching area roughly the size of New England. In 2005 Relocate-America.com has named Elko City as 1 of the "Top 100 Places To Live" in the United States.

The population of Elko County is over 52,000, the town of Elko is over 18,000 and the town of Spring Creek is 12,000. Lately, Elko has evolved into a showcase for Western American Folk Art. Long famous for the National Basque Festival, held each Independence Day, a new era in Elko's cultural history began in 1985, when the first Cowboy Poetry Gathering was held. Estimates are 8000 - 10000 people attended the festival this January!

The weather in Elko County is considered ideal by many. Summer finds hot, dry afternoons with temperatures in the 90s, cooling to the low 40s and 50s by morning. Winters are moderate with lows typically in the 20s or 30s. Daytime highs during the winter months are in the 40s or 50s. Snowfall averages 42 inches per year and generally melts quickly. Yearly rainfall ranges from 9 to 10.5 inches. Sunny skies are usually seen over 300 days a year!

The land is mountainous and interspersed with low, flat valleys. The Humboldt River flows through the county, with the Ruby Mountains stretching across it in a north-south direction. The elevation in the valleys is about 5000 and reaches up to 11,300 feet at Ruby Dome. The elevation of Pilot Peak on the east side of Elko County reaches up to 10,716 feet. Elko County provides unlimited recreational opportunities with fishing, big game hunting (mule deer, elk, antelope and bighorn sheep), snowmobiling, ice fishing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, boating and skiing.
