2.09 acre lot for sale in Spring Creek, Nevada about 11 miles SE of Elko in the Last Chance Ranch. It’s a remote and rural country setting hidden in the Elko Hills with dirt road access. It’s just waiting for a fisherwoman with Southfork State Recreation Area only 15 miles away! It’s about 3 hours S of Twin Falls, Idaho, 7 hours N of Las Vegas, NV between Reno and Salt Lake City, Utah.
All of the photos were taken June 2019 of the property and surrounding views. This is a corner lot with Second Street running along the South and Cortez Avenue along the E. Both of these roads are bladed dirt roads. They have improved dirt roads thru Spring Creek to here and I included several photos of the roads and my gps. It is easiest to come in and snake your way along the bottom to the east. There's a few homes over there that are maintaining the road to that point. I suggest you use a truck to easily access it.
The property is a gentle rolling hill down to the north. It's covered in tall healthy sagebrush and native plants. There's a few trees sprinkled the area the property.
A gorgeous view across Burner Basin to the town of Elko below in the valley. Beyond are the Adobe Mountains.
Across the street to the S is an abandoned property that is covered in quite a few trees offering a nice view from this property. It looked like noone had driven their driveway for several years and I went up it and sure enough it is abandoned and a strewn about RV. You might want to contact them and see if they want to sell since they aren't using it.
This was taken from the west looking back towards the treed hill above the property. This property sits on the left side of the road.
Power sits about 6/10 of a mile NE at the corner of Third Street and Fairview and we highlighted this in the maps. The property sits in the lower foothills that surround this small valley called Burner Basin. It rises up the hill from about 5625' on its N to 5650 on the S so its up a bit higher than where the photos were taken offering even better views of the hills and mountains!
I played with google earth a bit and you can really get a good idea how this little valley tucks in below the Elko Hills. It looks like on the BLM map that it’s known as Burner Basin and there is Burner Basin Spring sitting in the adjoining section (square mile) to the east. I read online that Burner Basin and Burner Basin Spring, a valley NE of the Elko Summit, are named for Elijah Burner who used the valley for range land. It certainly looks like good range land for cattle and I have photos of cattle grazing out here the first time I visited.
There's a few neighbors out here. There's a few stick built homes near the beginning and manufactured homes here. I did notice a huge greenhouse that I had never seen before and a new well being drilled towards the entrance into Burner Basin. This place slowly continues to grow but for the most part this part remains undeveloped.
Boy has this place really grown since I first visited it over ten years ago as I only recall one home back then. There are some really nice new homes as we exited Spring Creek into this subdivision and quite a few people have corrals and small barns with horses - very nice!
There are great views of the Elko Hills to the N with the towers on top of her. And beyond are the Adobe Mountains. They run for about 80 miles and have an area of about 314 square miles. It’s highest summit is 8,134 feet. It's on the list of Nevada’s 172 Prominent Peaks! I found a posting on summitpost.org of someone that hiked to the peak. They shared how to get out to the trail and the way up to the peak. They also shared several fabulous photos overlooking across the valley and Humboldt River to the Ruby Mountains. It seems that this is becoming quite known to climbers as you will see in the photos! Cool!
Elko County contains the majority of Nevada’s mule deer and this range is home to one of the largest mule deer and antelope herds in the state. They migrate between their summer range in the Snake and Adobe ranges to winter range in the Pequop Mountains. The N Fork of the Humboldt River borders the Adobe range to the south and east.
Most of the Adobes are a checkerboard of public (Bureau of Land Management) and private ownership and this land borders 1 square mile of BLM land (640 acres) on its southern border. This pattern is attributed to the Pacific Railway Act of 1862, where the federal government gave railroad companies free land in alternating sections as an incentive and a means to finance the overwhelming task of linking east with west by rail.
One of the largest antelop herds I’ve ever seen in 2004 while exploring this area!
Within an hour’s drive of the property are some famous fishing holes, Wildhorse Reservoir, Ruby Lake, and South Fork Reservoir!
Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir 60 miles north of the town of Elko. In 2011 I ran into some men who had just hauled a 350 pound elk from the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and of course I have included photos of those as well! Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about ice fishing at Wildhorse.
Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits on the SE side of the Ruby Mountains. With over 12,000 acres this area is a special habitat to over 207 species of birds providing feeding, nesting and a resting stop in the Pacific Flyway. On one of my first visits to Elko County some nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!
South Fork Reservoir and State Rec area is about 20 minutes S of Elko. It covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills and known for its trophy-class trout and bass.
The Last Chance Ranch sits just NE of Spring Creek as seen in the maps. Spring Creek is a bedroom community about ten minutes south of the town of Elko with a few restaurants and small stores. The Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital sits just on the other side of the hill to the west on the Lamoille Highway. So it’s about a 20 minute drive to downtown Elko for a garlic steak sandwich at the Star Hotel! I've really seen Elko grow since I first started exploring here in 2002. There is a newer bridge overpass over the Humboldt River in town and new homes being built with prices starting at over $250,000.
I included a video in the Additional Photos section below of my first journey around the Ruby Mountains in June 2004! It includes Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, the Humboldt River and the Last Chance Ranch II by Spring Creek and Elko, Nevada!
What a pretty place to hang out and escape! Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )
