PROPERTY INFORMATION

1.03 acres of cheap rural land for sale about 20 minutes NE of Elko, Nevada in the Twin River Ranches. It’s about an hour S of Idaho between Reno and Salt Lake City in the foothills of the Adobe Mountains. It sits 4.5 miles N of Interstate 80 in an undeveloped rural area with stunning views of the Ruby Mountains and Elko Hills zoned for home or RV use.

All of the photos were taken 2 lots to the east along the same road in February 2015 which is the closest we have been to the property. So you can see this property looking west towards the Adobe Mountains in images #31 thru 34 and 68 & 69.

It's about a ten minute drive NE of Elko and there is a gas station/mini store at the Ryndon exit #314 that I frequently stop at to get a homemade sandwich on Coal Mine Canyon Road! I took Coal Mine Canyon Road N off the interstate to Mesa Verde then west to Johnson Ave which is a bladed decent road running up the section line to 23rd Ave. 23rd is very overgrown and you would either need the clearance of a truck or you can walk two lots west to the property. It's a little over 2 miles of dirt road from Coal Mine Canyon.

The north part of the property slopes down off a hill and then flattens out to a gentle roll to the south offering a beautiful expansive view of the Ruby Mountains and Elko Hills! It was covered in healthy sage brush and native plants are scattered about the soft dirt. There wasn’t anyone around this area other than a few rabbits that darted away too quick for me to get a photo of. I did a well log search and did not find any in this section but there is one in the section that adjoins it to the SW. Wow there sure is lot of wide open space and lots of privacy for now!

There are great views of the Elko Hills to the south. It’s a full view and she has some pretty unique hillsides close by - very nice! And looming large beyond them from the S to the SE are the Ruby Mountains! It had recently snowed and she was beautiful! Called the Swiss Alps of Nevada, her snow capped peaks reach up to 11,317 feet at Ruby Dome. We caught a bit of a break in the clouds that night as the sun was setting making for a pretty show.

The Adobe Mountains are from the NW to the W and this property sits in its lower foothills as they fall down to the valley floor. They really are some pretty mountains to watch and such unsung beauty compared to the Rubies. She also has lots of character in her and I remember thinking how unique some of her cool peaks are when I first started taking photos of her about ten years ago. And when I took some time to look at these photos I thought the same thing again – wow those are some cool looking mountains.

They run for about 80 miles and have an area of about 314 square miles. It’s highest summit is 8,134 feet. It's on the list of Nevada’s 172 Prominent Peaks! I found a posting on summitpost.org of someone that hiked to the peak. They shared how to get out to the trail and the way up to the peak. They also shared several fabulous photos overlooking across the valley and Humboldt River to the Ruby Mountains. It seems that this is becoming quite known to climbers as you will see in the photos! Cool!

Elko County contains the majority of Nevada’s mule deer and this range is home to one of the largest mule deer and antelope herds in the state. They migrate between their summer range in the Snake and Adobe ranges to winter range in the Pequop Mountains. The N Fork of the Humboldt River borders the Adobe range to the south and east.

Most of the Adobes are a checkerboard of public (Bureau of Land Management) and private ownership and this land borders 1 square mile of BLM land (640 acres) on its southern border. This pattern is attributed to the Pacific Railway Act of 1862, where the federal government gave railroad companies free land in alternating sections as an incentive and a means to finance the overwhelming task of linking east with west by rail.

One of the largest herds I’ve seen in my life in 2004 while exploring this area!

Within an hour’s drive of the property are some famous fishing holes, Wildhorse Reservoir, Ruby Lake, and South Fork Reservoir!

Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir 60 miles north of the town of Elko. In 2011 I ran into some men who had just hauled a 350 pound elk from the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and of course I have included photos of those as well! Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about ice fishing at Wildhorse.

Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits on the SE side of the Ruby Mountains. With over 12,000 acres this area is a special habitat to over 207 species of birds providing feeding, nesting and a resting stop in the Pacific Flyway. On one of my first visits to Elko County some nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!

South Fork Reservoir and State Rec area is about 20 minutes S of Elko. It covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills and known for its trophy-class trout and bass.

I caught a gal out riding a horse south on Coal Mine Canyon Rd as we left the area - her and a friend were out practicing in their arena with her pony tail and bright pink top - had to include a photo of that - looked fun to me and reminded me of what Elko is all about - Cowgirl Country! : )

What I think is terrific about this area is that it is only about a 15 minute drive to Elko on the interstate! I myself own a piece of land a few miles northeast. I keep telling myself someday I am going to build myself a little place there and watch it snow on the Ruby Mountains! : ) I have seen quite a bit of growth out here since I started going to Elko in 2001. They put in a mini store /gas station along the Interstate at this exit and I snapped a picture of it in 2005. And so many more homes between this area and town - but still plenty of room for now!

The zoning allows for a home, manufactured home or year round RV use! I think this would be a great spot for a fisherman or hunter looking for a cheap spot to build a cabin or hang out in your RV! Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )

Elko County Area Photos

A video of my journeys thru Meadow Valley Ranchos Unit 11, the Hamilton-Bullion Trail and the South Fork State Reservoir where I sat thru a cattle drive in Elko, Nevada!

The Hamilton-Bullion Trail is an 11 mile loop ]for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land and over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River.

South Fork covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills. Known for its trophy-class trout and bass, and bird watching.

Elko County is located in northeastern Nevada, 295 miles east of Reno and 237 miles west of Salt Lake City. With 17,135 square miles it is one of the largest counties in the USA and is the heart of NE Nevada. A book listing American towns with the highest quality of life declared Elko, Nevada, "The Best Small Town in America." It is a small city, and a booming trading and service center for a mining and ranching area roughly the size of New England. In 2005 Relocate-America.com has named Elko City as 1 of the "Top 100 Places To Live" in the United States.

The population of Elko County is over 52,000, the town of Elko is over 18,000 and the town of Spring Creek is 12,000. Lately, Elko has evolved into a showcase for Western American Folk Art. Long famous for the National Basque Festival, held each Independence Day, a new era in Elko's cultural history began in 1985, when the first Cowboy Poetry Gathering was held. Estimates are 8000 - 10000 people attended the festival this January!

The weather in Elko County is considered ideal by many. Summer finds hot, dry afternoons with temperatures in the 90s, cooling to the low 40s and 50s by morning. Winters are moderate with lows typically in the 20s or 30s. Daytime highs during the winter months are in the 40s or 50s. Snowfall averages 42 inches per year and generally melts quickly. Yearly rainfall ranges from 9 to 10.5 inches. Sunny skies are usually seen over 300 days a year!

The land is mountainous and interspersed with low, flat valleys. The Humboldt River flows through the county, with the Ruby Mountains stretching across it in a north-south direction. The elevation in the valleys is about 5000 and reaches up to 11,300 feet at Ruby Dome. The elevation of Pilot Peak on the east side of Elko County reaches up to 10,716 feet. Elko County provides unlimited recreational opportunities with fishing, big game hunting (mule deer, elk, antelope and bighorn sheep), snowmobiling, ice fishing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, boating and skiing.
