PROPERTY INFORMATION
2.35 acres of land for sale in Elko Nevada about 20 minutes NE of town in the River Valley Ranches. It’s about an hour S of Idaho, 4 hours E of Reno, and 7 hours N of Las Vegas, NV. The early beginnings of the North Fork of the Humboldt River flows ¼ of a mile away! It’s only about 2.5 miles N of Interstate 80 so a quick jump on the interstate back to the bustling town of Elko! I think this is a great investment property assessed by Elko County at $5357!

All of the photos were taken only 3 blocks west in June 2012 of the River Valley Ranches Unit 1 Block 33 N2 Lot 6 and the surrounding views. I also included a few photos we took down along the river to the west. It was getting late and the sun was starting to set over the Ruby Mountains making for a pretty show!

When you get off I80 you want to stay on the south side and head E for about 1 mile to Columbia River Blvd. From there you can go under the interstate and about 3 miles N to the property. This will put you on the east side of the river where this property is. The GPS says you can get to the east side but the river actually stops you. There is a dirt road leading down the east side of the property and is also the dedicated easement.

There are a few neighbors scattered around with homes and RV's to the W and SW as seen in the photos. The area has tall sagebrush and really looked green when we visited. I played with Google Earth a bit and see that the elevation of this property rises above the river about 15 feet. The birds were chirping and it was a pretty setting with the sun setting!

The Elko Hills sit to the S and then the Ruby Mountains loom large beyond them from the S to the SE! Called the Swiss Alps of Nevada her snow capped peaks reach up to 11,317 feet at Ruby Dome and offer beautiful views to this property.

It is a beautiful view of the Adobe Mountains that sit across the other side of the river to the NE and E. The Adobe Range is located N and NW of Elko, Nevada, runs for about 80 miles and has an area of about 314 square miles. Its highest point is an unnamed summit of 8,134 feet. Elko County contains the majority of Nevada’s mule deer and this range is home to one of the largest mule deer and antelope herds in the state. They migrate between their summer range in the Snake and Adobe ranges to winter range in the Pequop Mountains. The N Fork of the Humboldt River borders the Adobe range to the south and east.

Most of the Adobes are a checkerboard of public (Bureau of Land Management) and private ownership. This pattern is attributed to the Pacific Railway Act of 1862, where the federal government gave railroad companies free land in alternating sections as an incentive and a means to finance the overwhelming task of linking east with west by rail. To learn more about blm land visit www.blm.gov.

This is a rural setting in Cowboy Country to hang out in your RV or build a home. What I think is terrific about this is its only about a 20 minute drive on the interstate and you're eating a garlic steak sandwich at the Star Hotel in downtown Elko! I myself own a 20 acre piece of land a few miles N overlooking these same views. I keep telling myself someday I am going to build myself a little place there and watch it snow on the Ruby Mountains!

Within an hour’s drive of the property are some famous fishing holes, Ruby Lake, South Fork Reservoir and Wildhorse Reservoir:

Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir 60 miles north of the town of Elko. In 2011 I ran into some men who had just hauled a 350 pound elk from the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and of course I have included photos of those as well! Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about ice fishing at Wildhorse.

Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits on the SE side of the Ruby Mountains. With over 12,000 acres this area is a special habitat to over 207 species of birds providing feeding, nesting and a resting stop in the Pacific Flyway. On one of my first visits to Elko County some nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!

South Fork Reservoir and State Rec area is about 20 minutes S of Elko. It covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills and known for its trophy-class trout and bass.

There are a few homes in the area but for the most part it remains undeveloped with plenty of privacy and room to have fun! I have seen quite a bit of growth NE of Elko along the Interstate since I started going to Elko about 14 years ago, so many homes between this area and town - but still plenty of room for now!

I continue to think that these lots so close to town are worth investing in. With many fabulous fishing holes and hunting areas within an hour’s drive I think this would be a great rural spot for someone looking to build a home or get away. Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )

Elko County Area Photos

A video of my journeys thru Meadow Valley Ranchos Unit 11, the Hamilton-Bullion Trail and the South Fork State Reservoir where I sat thru a cattle drive in Elko, Nevada!

The Hamilton-Bullion Trail is an 11 mile loop for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land and over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River. South Fork covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills. Known for its trophy-class trout and bass, and bird watching.

Elko County is located in northeastern Nevada, 295 miles east of Reno and 237 miles west of Salt Lake City. With 17,135 square miles it is one of the largest counties in the USA and is the heart of NE Nevada. A book listing American towns with the highest quality of life declared Elko, Nevada, "The Best Small Town in America." It is a small city, and a booming trading and service center for a mining and ranching area roughly the size of New England. In 2005 Relocate-America.com has named Elko City as 1 of the "Top 100 Places To Live" in the United States.

The population of Elko County is over 52,000, the town of Elko is over 18,000 and the town of Spring Creek is 12,000. Lately, Elko has evolved into a showcase for Western American Folk Art. Long famous for the National Basque Festival, held each Independence Day, a new era in Elko's cultural history began in 1985, when the first Cowboy Poetry Gathering was held. Estimates are 8000 - 10000 people attended the festival this January!

The weather in Elko County is considered ideal by many. Summer finds hot, dry afternoons with temperatures in the 90s, cooling to the low 40s and 50s by morning. Winters are moderate with lows typically in the 20s or 30s. Daytime highs during the winter months are in the 40s or 50s. Snowfall averages 42 inches per year and generally melts quickly. Yearly rainfall ranges from 9 to 10.5 inches. Sunny skies are usually seen over 300 days a year!

The land is mountainous and interspersed with low, flat valleys. The Humboldt River flows through the county, with the Ruby Mountains stretching across it in a north-south direction. The elevation in the valleys is about 5000 and reaches up to 11,300 feet at Ruby Dome. The elevation of Pilot Peak on the east side of Elko County reaches up to 10,716 feet. Elko County provides unlimited recreational opportunities with fishing, big game hunting (mule deer, elk, antelope and bighorn sheep), snowmobiling, ice fishing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, boating and skiing.

A video of my first journey around the Ruby Mountains in June 2004! Includes Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, the Humboldt River and the Last Chance Ranch II by Spring Creek and Elko, Nevada!
