That's me, Char, pointing to the tiny little fish I saw swimming in Jackstone Creek that flows right thru this property! How darn cool is that - fish in a creek in the middle of Nevada! It made me wonder how the heck do they get this far up and live?! Its about 10 miles NE of one of my favorite ever places, Elko, Nevada! Jackstone Creek is an early tributary to the N Fork of the Humboldt River.

2.4 acres of land for sale about 9 miles NE of Elko, Nevada with Jackstone Creek flowing thru it! The creek is an early tributary to the Humboldt River and it had tiny little fish in it when I viewed it in 2011! There are beautiful views of the Ruby Mountains looming large over the Elko Hills from this unique off grid property in Cowboy Country!

All of the photos were taken in October 2011 of the property as well as another property a few blocks to the west. This property is seen in images 47 thru 111. I originally sold this property a few years ago and have not viewed it since 2011 and there has been another owner since then. I believe that the owner did some clean up to it since then but you would need to view it to know for sure. He did have a problem with people stealing what he left behind so be careful what you leave behind in the middle of no where - no matter where you go!

It sits about 2 miles north of Interstate 80 with improved roads part way to the property and then a dirt road leading along the east side. There is a culvert where the creek flows under the road and a bunch of old cars strewn about it. I would think you'd want to spend some time cleaning this up but some of them have been there so long they are actually holding up part of the bank as seen in the photos. Sure makes me wonder how the heck or rather who the heck put them there...on purpose or???!

It is so hard to find property with a creek flowing through it, especially at the price we sell at! I don't expect this to be around for long! There are a few people who live out in this area, but for the most part it remains undeveloped with plenty of privacy and no one around for at least a few blocks or at least when I was there last.

I have visited this area a few times now and have seen water flowing in the creek in late summer, spring and again when we viewed these two properties in October 2011. It can be tricky trying to figure out how to cross the creek in some areas, as it does flow really big at times, which you can see by the cut in the walls of the banks.

There are beautiful views in all directions! The Ruby Mountains loom very large over the Elko Hills and valley floor, spanning from the east to the southeast. They peek out again behind the Elko Hills to the south, which are very close offering lots of character! Often called the Swiss Alps of Nevada, the Rubies reach 11,300 feet at Ruby Dome. The Adobe Range sits close by to the west and northwest. The lower foothills sit a bit up over the valley.

The property slopes a bit off of a hill to the north down to the south, but is mostly flat. You can see this property starting at image #47 in the property photos. There is a culvert over the creek and some old cars are holding up this culvert, as seen in the photos. There is tall sagebrush scattered about, native plants, grass, and a few flowers. There is some junk around the creek that needs to be cleaned up - a hard days work, but well worth the effort! There is a pretty home to the southeast that had fall colored trees and another neighbor to the east about a mile with a few trailers. The views of the Ruby Mountains and Elko Hills are just as spectacular as from the other lot!

What I think is terrific about this area is that it is only about a 10 minute drive to Elko on the interstate! I myself own a piece of land a few miles northeast. I keep telling myself some day I am going to build myself a little place there and watch it snow on the Ruby Mountains! I have seen quite a bit of growth NE of Elko along the Interstate since I started going to Elko about 14 years ago, so many homes between this area and town - but still plenty of room for now!

Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir 60 miles north of the town of Elko. In 2011 I ran into some men who had just hauled a 350 pound elk from the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and of course I have included photos of those as well! Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about ice fishing at Wildhorse.

Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits on the SE side of the Ruby Mountains. With over 12,000 acres this area is a special habitat to over 207 species of birds providing feeding, nesting and a resting stop in the Pacific Flyway. On one of my first visits to Elko County some nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!

South Fork Reservoir and State Rec area is about 20 minutes S of Elko. It covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills and known for its trophy-class trout and bass.

There are a few homes in the area but for the most part it remains undeveloped with plenty of privacy and room to have fun! I am often asked for property with water flowing through it, but it is so hard to come by at the price we sell at! And this one even had tiny, little fish! I think this would be a fun spot to pull your RV in on the weekends and enjoy the sunshine! Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )

Elko County Area Photos

A video of my journeys thru Meadow Valley Ranchos Unit 11, the Hamilton-Bullion Trail and the South Fork State Reservoir where I sat thru a cattle drive in Elko, Nevada!

The Hamilton-Bullion Trail is an 11 mile loop for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land and over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River. South Fork covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills. Known for its trophy-class trout and bass, and bird watching.

Elko County is located in northeastern Nevada, 295 miles east of Reno and 237 miles west of Salt Lake City. With 17,135 square miles it is one of the largest counties in the USA and is the heart of NE Nevada. A book listing American towns with the highest quality of life declared Elko, Nevada, "The Best Small Town in America." It is a small city, and a booming trading and service center for a mining and ranching area roughly the size of New England. In 2005 Relocate-America.com has named Elko City as 1 of the "Top 100 Places To Live" in the United States.

The population of Elko County is over 52,000, the town of Elko is over 18,000 and the town of Spring Creek is 12,000. Lately, Elko has evolved into a showcase for Western American Folk Art. Long famous for the National Basque Festival, held each Independence Day, a new era in Elko's cultural history began in 1985, when the first Cowboy Poetry Gathering was held. Estimates are 8000 - 10000 people attended the festival this January!

The weather in Elko County is considered ideal by many. Summer finds hot, dry afternoons with temperatures in the 90s, cooling to the low 40s and 50s by morning. Winters are moderate with lows typically in the 20s or 30s. Daytime highs during the winter months are in the 40s or 50s. Snowfall averages 42 inches per year and generally melts quickly. Yearly rainfall ranges from 9 to 10.5 inches. Sunny skies are usually seen over 300 days a year!

The land is mountainous and interspersed with low, flat valleys. The Humboldt River flows through the county, with the Ruby Mountains stretching across it in a north-south direction. The elevation in the valleys is about 5000 and reaches up to 11,300 feet at Ruby Dome. The elevation of Pilot Peak on the east side of Elko County reaches up to 10,716 feet. Elko County provides unlimited recreational opportunities with fishing, big game hunting (mule deer, elk, antelope and bighorn sheep), snowmobiling, ice fishing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, boating and skiing.

A video of my first journey around the Ruby Mountains in June 2004! Includes Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, the Humboldt River and the Last Chance Ranch II by Spring Creek and Elko, Nevada!
