1.53 acres of land for sale in Beatty, Oregon in Oregon Pines about 1.25 hours NE of Klamath Falls and 20 minutes NE of the little town of Sprague River. This sure was a pretty setting with a covey of quail hanging out on the road! Klamath County is located in the eastern foothills of the Cascade Mountains in Southern OR on the Pacific Flyway!

All of the photos were taken of the property and its surrounding views in August 2018. It was very hazy from the fires in California fires and it looks like it was a cloudy day. It sits on Nagelridge Way which is a decent graveled/dirt road and there's a little bump culdesac off it giving access to the property as seen in the maps. I did not see this little bump it was so overgrown. It sits less than a mile NW of Oregon Pines which is the main graveled road.

They are sociable birds and gather in small flocks called coveys. They prefer walking but when startled can fly up to 40 mph but not for long. And since they usually live within a 40 acre radius their entire lives, these are your neighbors - sweet!





The property is flat along the south and rises about 30 feet part way up the hill at its NE corner. It looks like it is wetter on it's W side where it gets close to the low point between the two hills. There's a bit of an intermittent stream during heavy rains or quick snow just to the W in this low spot that you can see in the aerial photos.



It's very open with quite a bit of grass, native plants that were blooming a beautiful yellow, and a few trees scattered about on it but no tall pines.



It sits at the mouth of a small canyon coming off the surrounding mesa between two big hills. The mesa has a few cool rock formations along its rim. Many areas of Oregon Pines have malapai rock but I did not see any on this lot - at least where I was along it.



In the hills to the NW is a neighbor hidden as seen in image #20. There's a few neighbors on the other side of the hill to the E as seen in images 85-90 and the one closest has a couple green houses set up.

From the W to the SE is an open beautiful view of the flat mesa and then a line of tall pine trees beyond. There's a little cabin set up to the S ‌in the distance. I sure thought the NE corner of the property would be a beautiful spot to put a cabin and overlook this pretty little valley!



So what is Oregon Pines and why's it so cheap? For several years I have chosen to mostly not deal in land in this subdivision because wow it can be a bumpy ride to the top. And don't try to even attempt if it's wet mud during snowmelt season because it's thick and you'll get stuck.

My GPS tried to take me the wrong way up here so here's some directions to Oregon Pines: Oregon Pines Road sits about 3/4 of a mile W of Godowa Springs Road aka County Highway 1193. It's about 3.8 miles NW of Beatty and 13 miles E of Sprague River to the intersection of Drews Road (aka Drews Ranch Road on some maps) and Oregon Pines Road. It leads about 6.5 miles NW to the beginning part of Oregon Pines subdivision.

Tableland Mesa stretches between 5 and 10 miles N of the Sprague River Valley and climbs up into the foothills of Cooks Mountain and actually touches the Fremont-Winema National Forest. The canyons that lead up to the top of the mesa are beautiful to explore. Melting snow and heavy rains cut intermittent streams thru these narrow canyons and this subdivision is built around the canyons with lots of culverts crossing the streams.

In 2012 I was exploring a property in Cooks Canyon on the W side of Cooks Mountain and spotted several prints in the dirt which included bear, cougar and deer! Which brings me back to the reason I purchased lots at Oregon Pines. It's definitely not my favorite stuff because of all the rocks but it's cheap and it's the hunters who buy it from me.







About 1 mile NW as the crow flies is the Fremont-Winema National Forest offering 2.3 million acres to explore! The heavily timbered western portion of the forests is bordered by the crest of the Cascade Mountain Range and Crater Lake National Park, and stretches east into the Klamath River Basin, an area known for its year-round sunshine, wetlands, woodlands and wildlife. It's also home to Crater Lake, famous for its deep blue color and water clarity.

It sits directly on the Pacific Flyway, a major migratory route for birds extending from Alaska to the tip of South America. Every year, migratory birds travel some or all of this distance both in spring and in fall, finding food, breeding grounds, and overwintering sites. About 80% of those bird make the Klamath Basin a stopover which is over 1 million at times! And wow is it an incredible display of large and small birds, and there is an abundant amount of the large ones!

The largest concentration of bald eagles in the lower 48 states winters here and they are a fabulous sight to see as seen in the additional photos area! I love the drive from Klamath Falls to Sprague River/Beatty and it's flock after flock of birds. I spotted this bald eagle sitting on the fence along Oregon Pines Road!



Sprague River, population 514, sits about 35 miles NE of Klamath Falls. It has a store with basic necessities, a restaurant I have seen come and go and there is also a post office. This is a favorite area for many seeking a rural setting in the countryside. In June 2012 we stopped in at the little country store in Sprague River for some supplies and also across the street at the Post Office / Public Library. A special shout out to Joyce, the postal worker who also happens to be the librarian. She educated me about the library...among other things. Like which side the glass window would be on if they were truly closed! : )



I peeked thru the window into the library which was not yet open and she said they were kept very busy and they also offer an interlibrary system that allows people to special order books and tapes from any library in Klamath County. They get delivered right to the library out here. I commented that we had that were we lived in as well and we are big fans of that - a cheap way to read investing and inspirational material for me cause I am cheap! Ha! She said theirs is very busy! I also enjoyed seeing kids jumping from the bridge and playing in the Sprague River and a couple out fishing along the Williamson River and included some of these additional photos at the very bottom.

Klamath County borders northern California and is the fourth largest county in Oregon. Klamath Falls is the county seat as well as the largest nearby town about 45 minutes from Sprague River and Beatty. Here you will find large businesses like Home Depot and Safeway and the courthouse in an old downtown beautiful setting.

I've seen winters where the roads are dry and winters where's there's several feet of snow. I do not explore land here during the winter amd some springs are iffy because unless a neighbor is driving a road to keep the snow down it's blocked. And I've seen it snow here in May and June on a wild weather day! This is the Cascade's!

I enjoy the drive from Klamath Falls out to this area. It follows the Lost River for a few miles and I frequently stop at Stevenson Park which is a little wayside pullout with a couple picnic benches and see what's in the river. One day I saw pelicans...what??? I thought they lived in Florida! Gotta laugh at myself!



In August 2018, the haze from the California wildfires made for a beautiful sunset and as I headed W of Beatty I spotted these two Great Blue Herons, one on top of an old barn and the other on a pole. Soon the one on the barn flew down to join the other for a romantic sunset! I was thrilled to capture it in flight! I see online it's referred to the "old Gallagher barn" - so glad they have left it standing. Some might think it's useless, why leave it? But these two had one heck of a romantic night at that old barn! Ha! : )

Klamath County - Sprague River & Beatty area photos

All of these photos were taken on our journeys to the Sprague River and Beatty area. It includes the subdivisions of Klamath Forest Estates, Nimrod River Park, Oregon Pines, Sprague River Valley Acres and the many drives from Klamath Falls out to this area!

The towns of Sprague River and Beatty area located in the eastern foothills of the Cascade Mountains in south central Oregon. It is about 50 miles north of the California State line and an hours drive NE of Klamath Falls. Highway 93 and Crater Lake sit to the west.

It is a very rural part of the county and although it remains largely undeveloped there is a large group of people that call this off this rural area home. I think it is a beautiful area with its big huge tall pine trees and wild birds flying around!

Access into the lower part of Klamath Falls Estates subdivision is off Sprague River Drive which heads N off Sprague River Road about 1.25 miles NW of the Sprague River bridge in town.

NF-44 is a decent graveled Forest Service road into the top of the subdivision. NF-44 heads E off Sprague River Road about 9 miles NW of town and it's about 5.5 miles E on this road to the NW corner of Klamath Forest Estates subdivision.

There is a cute community store in the area and the small town of Sprague River just down the road has a post office and public library. The population of Sprague River is about 514 in 2018. I have seen it grow quite a bit since I started exploring it in 2003.

It is a gorgeous area on the pacific flyway and a fisherman's and hunter's paradise! I love this drive to town along the farm lands and rivers and I have seen flock after flock of birds, kids out hunting and even a few pelicans along the river. I had no idea that pelicans lived in Klamath Falls!

I often get asked for property in this area by people that don't want a lot of restrictions and I mention this as a good option. Zoned for either a home or a manufactured home this is a great place for someone seeking a rural area off the beaten path with plenty of privacy!
