PROPERTY INFORMATION

2.17 & 2.27 acre lots for sale about 7 miles north of Elko, Nevada in Kittridge Canyon overlooking the Elko Hills and the Ruby Mountains! This is my favorite of all the subdivisions around the town of Elko because of the beautiful white and red washed hillsides and rocks - oh what a pretty canyon!

It sits just above the valley floor that the Humboldt River flows thru, the golf course in the distance by the town and then the Elko Hills! It's about 3 hours W of Salt Lake City, Utah and 5 hours east of Reno and only a couple miles off Interstate 80 in Cowboy Country! You're a quick drive to town for a garlic steak sandwich at the Star Hotel for lunch!

All of the photos were taken in April 2014 about 1.5 blocks SE of lot #7 so a little less than 1/2 of a mile and should be an excellent representation of the area. Image #62-64 and 69 and 70 are looking NW towards the hill these properties sit on. There is a small white trailer sitting on lot #8 and I believe that's the little white trailer that you see in the photos. So these lots sit just to the west of that trailer with lot #7 adjoining it.

It’s a bit tricky to get to Kittridge Canyon but it’s actually a very quick trip to town once you figure it out. Take Idaho Street not I80 to the canyon access road and then take a left and continue to follow that road all the way. The roads are improved to the neighbors homes and from that point they are overgrown dirt roads but still driveable. Bannock Road is a dirt road along the W side of lot #5. 9th Street (called Fosglove on the parcel map) is a dirt road along the south of both lots.

I studied Google Earth and lot 5 has a rise from the SW corner up to the NE corner giving it a big view over the surrounding valley! This lot also adjoins 640 acres (1 square mile) of BLM land on it's western border! Lot 7 has a more gentle slope to it.

It actually snowed the day we were there and it warmed up to 50 degrees by 4PM but boy it sure was a cold day to begin and lots of pretty snow in the mountains! That was a bummer as we couldn't see the majestic Ruby Mountains that rise above the Elko Hills!

Kittridge Canyon is a beautiful canyon to drive through with all the white washed rocks! I’ve only seen this cool white rock in one other place in Elko County and it really is unique. There are incredible views of white rocks running thru the canyon from the N to NE with red above them and this property sits just across the narrow valley from them. I found some pretty rocks on the property and actually took one home with me and included a few photos of it as well!

The Elko Hills had snow on them and the Ruby Mountains were hidden in the hills! Angel, Amber's dog who helped us explore land that day, chased rabbits and prairie dogs while we took photos! She's so pretty just like her Momma and Amber says she is smart too - don't forget it - she can chase a rabbit and catch it! Hmm I'm not sure about the last part of that statement but yep she's pretty!

The town of Elko and the golf course sit a few miles to the south and then the Elko Hills looming large over the town. The Humboldt River flows thru this valley along the Elko Hills. I think its great views of the Adobe Mountains and her colors and unique hills give lots of charm to this area! It really is a nice spot for a home or manufactured home.

There are fabulous views from the NW to the SW of the Adobe Range as she tumbles down to the valley towards the west. She is definitely an unsung hero compared to the Rubies, but she also has lots of character in her and I remember thinking how unique some of her cool peaks are when I first started taking photos of her about ten years ago.

They run for about 80 miles and have an area of about 314 square miles. It’s highest summit is 8,134 feet. It's on the list of Nevada’s 172 Prominent Peaks! I found a posting on summitpost.org of someone that hiked to the peak. They shared how to get out to the trail and the way up to the peak. They also shared several fabulous photos overlooking across the valley and Humboldt River to the Ruby Mountains. It seems that this is becoming quite known to climbers as you will see in the photos! Cool!

Elko County contains the majority of Nevada’s mule deer and this range is home to one of the largest mule deer and antelope herds in the state. They migrate between their summer range in the Snake and Adobe ranges to winter range in the Pequop Mountains. The N Fork of the Humboldt River borders the Adobe range to the south and east.

Most of the Adobes are a checkerboard of public (Bureau of Land Management) and private ownership and this land borders 1 square mile of BLM land (640 acres) on its southern border. This pattern is attributed to the Pacific Railway Act of 1862, where the federal government gave railroad companies free land in alternating sections as an incentive and a means to finance the overwhelming task of linking east with west by rail.

One of the largest herds I’ve seen in my life in 2004 while exploring this area!

Within an hour’s drive of the property are some famous fishing holes, Wildhorse Reservoir, Ruby Lake, and South Fork Reservoir!

Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir 60 miles north of the town of Elko. In 2011 I ran into some men who had just hauled a 350 pound elk from the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and of course I have included photos of those as well! Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about ice fishing at Wildhorse.

Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits on the SE side of the Ruby Mountains. With over 12,000 acres this area is a special habitat to over 207 species of birds providing feeding, nesting and a resting stop in the Pacific Flyway. On one of my first visits to Elko County some nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!

South Fork Reservoir and State Rec area is about 20 minutes S of Elko. It covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills and known for its trophy-class trout and bass.

The BLM (Bureau of Land Management) map shows there is a section of land adjoining lot #5 on its west side (1 section = 1 square mile = 640 acres). Each square on the BLM map equals one square mile. For more information on BLM land you can visit BLM.gov.

On our way to the subdivision we passed by The Point, a new development with lot prices starting at over $90,000 and that’s just for the lot – not the house! I think this is would be a fabulous investment or spot to build a beautiful home in Elko!

It’s been a few years since we had something come up for sale here and they never seem to stay around long. Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )

Elko County Area Photos

A video of my journeys thru Meadow Valley Ranchos Unit 11, the Hamilton-Bullion Trail and the South Fork State Reservoir where I sat thru a cattle drive in Elko, Nevada!

The Hamilton-Bullion Trail is an 11 mile loop ]for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land and over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River.

South Fork covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills. Known for its trophy-class trout and bass, and bird watching.

Elko County is located in northeastern Nevada, 295 miles east of Reno and 237 miles west of Salt Lake City. With 17,135 square miles it is one of the largest counties in the USA and is the heart of NE Nevada. A book listing American towns with the highest quality of life declared Elko, Nevada, "The Best Small Town in America." It is a small city, and a booming trading and service center for a mining and ranching area roughly the size of New England. In 2005 Relocate-America.com has named Elko City as 1 of the "Top 100 Places To Live" in the United States.

The population of Elko County is over 52,000, the town of Elko is over 18,000 and the town of Spring Creek is 12,000. Lately, Elko has evolved into a showcase for Western American Folk Art. Long famous for the National Basque Festival, held each Independence Day, a new era in Elko's cultural history began in 1985, when the first Cowboy Poetry Gathering was held. Estimates are 8000 - 10000 people attended the festival this January!

The weather in Elko County is considered ideal by many. Summer finds hot, dry afternoons with temperatures in the 90s, cooling to the low 40s and 50s by morning. Winters are moderate with lows typically in the 20s or 30s. Daytime highs during the winter months are in the 40s or 50s. Snowfall averages 42 inches per year and generally melts quickly. Yearly rainfall ranges from 9 to 10.5 inches. Sunny skies are usually seen over 300 days a year!

The land is mountainous and interspersed with low, flat valleys. The Humboldt River flows through the county, with the Ruby Mountains stretching across it in a north-south direction. The elevation in the valleys is about 5000 and reaches up to 11,300 feet at Ruby Dome. The elevation of Pilot Peak on the east side of Elko County reaches up to 10,716 feet. Elko County provides unlimited recreational opportunities with fishing, big game hunting (mule deer, elk, antelope and bighorn sheep), snowmobiling, ice fishing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, boating and skiing.

A video of my first journey around the Ruby Mountains in June 2004! Includes Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, the Humboldt River and the Last Chance Ranch II by Spring Creek and Elko, Nevada!
