It was a bit bumpy but still driveable in a car and only about 200 feet from Holiday Drive which is a decent graveled road. It's a cute area and the tree branches were pretty in the setting sun. The lot slopes uphill off the road. It's covered in lots of trees and a medium amount of underbrush. I met the neighbors who have been there since 1992. They said they would love to see new people and seemed excited about using the amenities. The entrance into Timber Lake sits just 2/10 of a mile SW! SOLD Block 4 Lot 21 is 10,730 Sq Feet, (0.33 Acre), Taxes $6.60. See images 86 - 135. Notes: Sitting along a graveled road with power along it. There's a big ravine thru the middle of the property but looks like you can fit an RV on either side still. Wow was there a lot of birds singing and branches breaking as I walked thru the property. Lake Chaparral, Kansas and Linn County Area Photos

Lake Chaparral is about 6 miles NW of Mound City, Kansas, the County Seat for Linn County. It's about an hours S of greater Kansas City, KS., 3 hours E of Wichita, and 2.5 hours NW of Springfield, MO. It's close enough to Kansas City to escape for the day and take the kids fishing and swimming! It has a population of about 680 and the county has a population of 9536.

Lake Chaparral subdivision offers 3 fishing lakes, a kid’s fishing pond, beaches, docks, boat ramps, 2 shower houses, gated access, and other amenities for the use of the property owners.

Majority of it is heavily treed and zoned for residential use with manufactured homes, small cottages, RV's parked on a permanent basis, and some set up to easily pull in an RV. Around 16 miles of graveled roads run through much of the subdivision which are maintained by the POA.

A lot of time, attention and care has been given to the 3 lakes within the subdivision. Timber Lake is the smallest. De Lago Lake is the next largest, and offers a shower house, a family barbecue area adjacent to a floating dock, a boat ramp and swimming beach. The largest lake, Lake Chaparral, is the namesake of the community and has a beach, shower house, docks and boat ramps. Since it’s a private community, owners need not have a fishing license and the lakes are stocked regularly!

They put on quite a few special events throughout the year on the holidays and there’s bingo in the clubhouse on certain Saturday evenings and bridge in the game room on a regular basis.

I like the motto on Mound City's website: SMALL TOWN LIVIN' WITH BIG CITY PERKS! WARM, FRIENDLY COMMUNITY WITH SUPERB RECREATION OPPORTUNITIES AND CLOSE ACCESS TO KANSAS CITY!

It's about 45 minutes from the historic Fort Scott’s civil war memories. There are antique shops in every direction. It's about 30 minutes from the Amish Farmer’s Market, where you can pick up many organically-grown meats, vegetables and homemade treats. There is a strong sense of safety and stability within the community, with little-to-no crime.

Pleasanton is the biggest city in the area with a population of 1176. It was founded in 1869 and named after General Alfred Pleasonton, the victorious Union General at the Battle of Mine Creek. It's built in and around the battlefield site which is considered by many to be the only major Civil War battlefield in Kansas. It's also home of Cookee's Drive-In which has been voted "Best" for several years in a row and Amber agrees!
