PROPERTY INFORMATION

Pretty 1.13 Acre lot for sale about 7 miles SW of Elko, Nevada adjoining 640 acres of BLM land! There's a little intermittent stream running through property. It is a cute country drive to town with animals, crops and the Humboldt River along the way! Elko is located between Reno, Nevada and Salt Lake City, Utah and about 7 hours N of Las Vegas in Cowboy Country!

All of the photos were taken of the property in April 2018. 18th Street is a bladed dirt road along the south that was a bit rutted in spots and you might need clearance in some places unless you threw some gravel/dirt on it. It sits 8/10 of a mile south of a bladed dirt road that connects to Bullion Road 1/2 NE that takes you back to Elko. The property sits 5 miles SW of the Errecart Boulevard intersection in Elko which is the road that takes you over the bridge in town.

The BLM (Bureau of Land Management) map shows there is one square mile of BLM land adjoining to the south (1 section = 1 square mile = 640 acres). Each square on the BLM map equals one square mile. For more information on BLM land you can visit BLM.gov.

The property is mostly flat with the NE tip of it rising up onto a hill at the corner of the property. It had a lot of sagebrush on the property and it smelled really good from the recent rain. There's an intermittent stream that flows thru the property. It crosses 18th Street just past the east edge of the property and you can see its rutted the road out giving an idea of just now big that stream can be - not too big but sort of cool!

It's tucked into the bottom of the Elko Hills which are a beautiful view so close by from the SE to the SW. They have a reddish hue to the hillsides - nice!

Across the valley to the north are the Adobe Mountains, home of one of the largest mule deer and antelope herds in the State! Interstate 80 runs 1.5 miles to the N and I could vaguely hear it in the distance. The Humboldt River sits 1 mile north with a few big farms along it. It's a pretty view of the red reeds along the river in the spring time marking where she meanders thru the valley floor and bends to the SW. There were no neighbors in the area offering lots of privacy for now!

The town of Elko is 6 miles NE and wow has it really grown on this side of town over the years. I think this is a great investment area as there are new homes being built 4 miles NE along Bullion Road called Hamilton Stage which I first noticed being built in 2013. By looking at google earth it appears to be about half built out. I did a search and see lots going for $45,000 and homes for over $300,000!

The Adobe Range is located N and NW of Elko, Nevada, runs for about 80 miles and has an area of about 314 square miles. Its highest point is an unnamed summit of 8,134 feet. Elko County contains the majority of Nevada’s mule deer and this range is home to one of the largest mule deer and antelope herds in the state. They migrate between their summer range in the Snake and Adobe ranges to winter range in the Pequop Mountains. The N Fork of the Humboldt River borders the Adobe range to the south and east.

One of the largest herds I’ve seen in my life in 2004 while exploring this area!

Most of the Adobes are a checkerboard of public (Bureau of Land Management) and private ownership. This pattern is attributed to the Pacific Railway Act of 1862, where the federal government gave railroad companies free land in alternating sections as an incentive and a means to finance the overwhelming task of linking east with west by rail.

While researching the Adobe Mountain Range I found a posting on summitpost.org of someone that hiked to the peak. They shared how to get out to the trail and the way up to the peak. They also shared several fabulous photos overlooking across the valley and Humboldt River to the Ruby Mountains. It seems that this is becoming quite known to climbers as you will see in the photos! Cool!

The Ruby Mountains sit south behind the Elko Hills. Often called the Swiss Alps of Nevada they rise to 11,387 feet at Ruby Dome! These mountains are the locals outdoor playground when it comes to hunting, fishing and exploring.

The Hamilton-Bullion Trail sits 1/2 mile east of the property. This 11 mile loop was made with efforts from the Elko Convention and Visitors Authority and the BLM to establish a route for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land - a pretty cool trail that takes you over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River. I've been to South Fork Reservoir a few times now and included photos of that hot spot for fishing and bird watching in the additional photos area below! Sounds fun to me to take a horse ride on it!

The town of Elko is so close by and you can see the local businesses and new growth with your naked eye! I have really seen this side of Elko growing since I first started exploring here in 2002. There is a newer bridge overpass over the Humboldt River in town that making easy access to Bullion Road.

And once you make it to town be sure and stop at my favorite Basque restaurant, the Star Hotel for one of their fabulous garlic steak sandwiches! In 1959 a Basque tradition began with a celebration that brought sheepherders and cattle ranchers into town for a day of celebration. Now known as the National Basque Festival, this event takes place around the 4th of July at the Elko County Fairgrounds.

Within an hour’s drive of the property are some famous fishing holes, Wildhorse Reservoir, Ruby Lake, and South Fork Reservoir!

Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir 60 miles north of the town of Elko. In 2011 I ran into some men who had just hauled a 350 pound elk from the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and of course I have included photos of those as well! Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about ice fishing at Wildhorse.

Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits on the SE side of the Ruby Mountains. With over 12,000 acres this area is a special habitat to over 207 species of birds providing feeding, nesting and a resting stop in the Pacific Flyway. On one of my first visits to Elko County some nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!

South Fork Reservoir and State Rec area is about 20 minutes S of Elko. It covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills and known for its trophy-class trout and bass.

The property is zoned for a home or RV use and I think it is a great investment as well as a gourgeous spot close to town for someone looking to build off grid. Imagine the change in the colors in valley and mountains with the seasons! Char the Explorer : )

Elko County Area Photos

A video of my journeys thru Meadow Valley Ranchos Unit 11, the Hamilton-Bullion Trail and the South Fork State Reservoir where I sat thru a cattle drive in Elko, Nevada!

The Hamilton-Bullion Trail is an 11 mile loop ]for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land and over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River.

South Fork covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills. Known for its trophy-class trout and bass, and bird watching.

Elko County is located in northeastern Nevada, 295 miles east of Reno and 237 miles west of Salt Lake City. With 17,135 square miles it is one of the largest counties in the USA and is the heart of NE Nevada. A book listing American towns with the highest quality of life declared Elko, Nevada, "The Best Small Town in America." It is a small city, and a booming trading and service center for a mining and ranching area roughly the size of New England. In 2005 Relocate-America.com has named Elko City as 1 of the "Top 100 Places To Live" in the United States.

The population of Elko County is over 52,000, the town of Elko is over 18,000 and the town of Spring Creek is 12,000. Lately, Elko has evolved into a showcase for Western American Folk Art. Long famous for the National Basque Festival, held each Independence Day, a new era in Elko's cultural history began in 1985, when the first Cowboy Poetry Gathering was held. Estimates are 8000 - 10000 people attended the festival this January!

The weather in Elko County is considered ideal by many. Summer finds hot, dry afternoons with temperatures in the 90s, cooling to the low 40s and 50s by morning. Winters are moderate with lows typically in the 20s or 30s. Daytime highs during the winter months are in the 40s or 50s. Snowfall averages 42 inches per year and generally melts quickly. Yearly rainfall ranges from 9 to 10.5 inches. Sunny skies are usually seen over 300 days a year!

The land is mountainous and interspersed with low, flat valleys. The Humboldt River flows through the county, with the Ruby Mountains stretching across it in a north-south direction. The elevation in the valleys is about 5000 and reaches up to 11,300 feet at Ruby Dome. The elevation of Pilot Peak on the east side of Elko County reaches up to 10,716 feet. Elko County provides unlimited recreational opportunities with fishing, big game hunting (mule deer, elk, antelope and bighorn sheep), snowmobiling, ice fishing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, boating and skiing.

A video of my first journey around the Ruby Mountains in June 2004! Includes Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, the Humboldt River and the Last Chance Ranch II by Spring Creek and Elko, Nevada!
