PROPERTY INFORMATION

1.13 acre lot for sale about 15 minutes NE of Elko, Nevada with a view of the N Fork of the Humboldt River and just off Interstate 80. It’s a rural off grid spot for a home or getaway in your RV with stunning views of the Ruby Mountains and Elko Hills. It’s about an hour S of Idaho, 4 hours E of Reno, and 7 hours N of Las Vegas, NV. Lots of fishing at close by Ruby Lake, South Fork Reservoir and the Wildhorse Reservoir in Cowboy Country!

Some of the photos were taken 1 block to the E in block 38 and the rest were taken 2 blocks NE in block 30 in April and October 2014. It sure gives you an idea just how different it looks with snow on the Rubies - wow! South 9th Street is a bladed dirt road leading along the S of the property. Madison Avenue sits at the W end of the block and leads N back to the Interstate 80. There are a few neighbors down in this lower part using Madison Avenue as well.

If you study Google Earth and follow Maddison N you will see that it splits to the NW and NE and people are cutting thru to the NE directly to the intersection of Devil's Gate Road and I80. I have driven this as well as it sure does look like the road but technically it's not the dedicated easement as seen in the parcel map and someday you might have to drive the extra couple blocks and come in from the NW. The unit adjoins Interstate 80 and this property sits in the lower portion of that unit about one mile from I80 as the crows flies.

The N and S Fork of the Humboldt River come together just to the SE of this subdivision as seen in the maps and aerial photos. There are several ponds along the N Fork to the E being used by a mine of some type. It looks like there is a lake there for several months of the year but at times there's less water there.

The upper part of the subdivision is a bit more developed but I’ve started to see more homes and RVs in this lower part every time I visit. There are a few neighbors sprinkled about the area and the closest neighbor sits 1 blocks SW as seen in the aerial photos. There is power running through different parts of the subdivision and you would need to contact the local power company to verify just how close it runs and the cost but it doesn’t run this far down yet. I think these lots so close to town are a good investment!

There are awesome views of the Ruby Mountains and the Elko Hills. They start to the south with the Ruby Mountains popping out behind the Elko Hills. Called the Swiss Alps of Nevada her snowcapped peaks reach up to 11,317 feet at Ruby Dome. There is a long view of this range all the way from the S to the SE! And in the valley to the E and SE the N Fork of the Humboldt River meanders thru the valley floor and there is a cute railroad trestle for those who like to watch the trains go by!

The Adobe Mountains sit to the N and NW and run for about 80 miles and have an area of about 314 square miles. It’s highest summit is 8,134 feet. It's on the list of Nevada’s 172 Prominent Peaks! I found a posting on summitpost.org of someone that hiked to the peak. They shared how to get out to the trail and the way up to the peak. They also shared several fabulous photos overlooking across the valley and Humboldt River to the Ruby Mountains. It seems that this is becoming quite known to climbers as you will see in the photos! Cool!

Elko County contains the majority of Nevada’s mule deer and this range is home to one of the largest mule deer and antelope herds in the state. They migrate between their summer range in the Snake and Adobe ranges to winter range in the Pequop Mountains. The N Fork of the Humboldt River borders the Adobe range to the south and east.

Most of the Adobes are a checkerboard of public (Bureau of Land Management) and private ownership and this land borders 1 square mile of BLM land (640 acres) on its southern border. This pattern is attributed to the Pacific Railway Act of 1862, where the federal government gave railroad companies free land in alternating sections as an incentive and a means to finance the overwhelming task of linking east with west by rail.

One of the largest herds I’ve seen in my life in 2004 while exploring this area!

Within an hour’s drive of the property are some famous fishing holes, Wildhorse Reservoir, Ruby Lake, and South Fork Reservoir!

Wildhorse Reservoir is a 2,800 acre premium trout reservoir 60 miles north of the town of Elko. In 2011 I ran into some men who had just hauled a 350 pound elk from the Wild Horse State Recreation Area and of course I have included photos of those as well! Hunters know the area for its elk, deer, mountain lion and bird but it's the fishermen that tell tall stories about ice fishing at Wildhorse.

Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits on the SE side of the Ruby Mountains. With over 12,000 acres this area is a special habitat to over 207 species of birds providing feeding, nesting and a resting stop in the Pacific Flyway. On one of my first visits to Elko County some nice gentlemen told me that Ruby Lake was the best fishing in the state!

South Fork Reservoir and State Rec area is about 20 minutes S of Elko. It covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills and known for its trophy-class trout and bass.

The section (square mile) of land that this property sits in is close to several square miles of BLM land, especially to the S, and as seen in the BLM and parcel map! (BLM land is in orange). A section = 1 square mile = 640 acres. For more information on BLM land you can visit BLM.gov.

The zoning allows for a home, manufactured home or year round RV use! I have really seen the areas along Interstate 80 continuing to grow and it seems it’s mostly the locals who buy properties out here to build a home in the country side or for an investment. You’re still within a reasonable drive to the bustling town of Elko for a garlic steak sandwich at the Star Hotel in downtown Elko!

With many fabulous fishing holes and hunting areas I think this would be a great rural spot for someone looking to hang out in their RV or build an off-grid home or getaway while they have fun hunting, fishing or just watching the sunset on the Rubies. Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )

Elko County Area Photos

A video of my journeys thru Meadow Valley Ranchos Unit 11, the Hamilton-Bullion Trail and the South Fork State Reservoir where I sat thru a cattle drive in Elko, Nevada!

The Hamilton-Bullion Trail is an 11 mile loop ]for horses, hikers and mountain bikers. It goes from Elko onto BLM land and over hills offering scenic views of the Ruby Mountains, South Fork Reservoir and the Humboldt River.

South Fork covers 1,650 acres and is surrounded by 2,200 acres of wildlife-filled meadow land and rolling hills. Known for its trophy-class trout and bass, and bird watching.

Elko County is located in northeastern Nevada, 295 miles east of Reno and 237 miles west of Salt Lake City. With 17,135 square miles it is one of the largest counties in the USA and is the heart of NE Nevada. A book listing American towns with the highest quality of life declared Elko, Nevada, "The Best Small Town in America." It is a small city, and a booming trading and service center for a mining and ranching area roughly the size of New England. In 2005 Relocate-America.com has named Elko City as 1 of the "Top 100 Places To Live" in the United States.

The population of Elko County is over 52,000, the town of Elko is over 18,000 and the town of Spring Creek is 12,000. Lately, Elko has evolved into a showcase for Western American Folk Art. Long famous for the National Basque Festival, held each Independence Day, a new era in Elko's cultural history began in 1985, when the first Cowboy Poetry Gathering was held. Estimates are 8000 - 10000 people attended the festival this January!

The weather in Elko County is considered ideal by many. Summer finds hot, dry afternoons with temperatures in the 90s, cooling to the low 40s and 50s by morning. Winters are moderate with lows typically in the 20s or 30s. Daytime highs during the winter months are in the 40s or 50s. Snowfall averages 42 inches per year and generally melts quickly. Yearly rainfall ranges from 9 to 10.5 inches. Sunny skies are usually seen over 300 days a year!

The land is mountainous and interspersed with low, flat valleys. The Humboldt River flows through the county, with the Ruby Mountains stretching across it in a north-south direction. The elevation in the valleys is about 5000 and reaches up to 11,300 feet at Ruby Dome. The elevation of Pilot Peak on the east side of Elko County reaches up to 10,716 feet. Elko County provides unlimited recreational opportunities with fishing, big game hunting (mule deer, elk, antelope and bighorn sheep), snowmobiling, ice fishing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, boating and skiing.

A video of my first journey around the Ruby Mountains in June 2004! Includes Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, the Humboldt River and the Last Chance Ranch II by Spring Creek and Elko, Nevada!
